RERF Diploma Lateral FAQs
Ques. What diploma lateral programmes does RERF offer?
Ans. RERF offers four 2-year Diploma Lateral entry programmes: Diploma in Civil Engineering Lateral, Diploma in Electrical Engineering Lateral, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Lateral, and Diploma in Computer Science and Technology Lateral. All programmes are affiliated with MAKAUT and approved by AICTE. Admission to all four streams is through VOCLET conducted by WBJEEB for ITI certificate holders in West Bengal.
Ques. What is the fee difference between the diploma lateral streams at RERF?
Ans. The total fee for Diploma in Civil Engineering Lateral, Electrical Engineering Lateral, and Mechanical Engineering Lateral at RERF is INR 78,000 for the 2-year programme, payable at INR 39,000 per year. The Diploma in Computer Science and Technology Lateral has a higher fee of INR 1,36,000 for 2 years, payable at INR 68,000 per year. All fee figures are for tuition. Ques. Who is eligible for the RERF Diploma Lateral programmes?
Ans. Candidates must hold an ITI certificate in a relevant trade from a recognised institute and must have a valid VOCLET rank from WBJEEB. The trade must correspond to the chosen diploma stream. For example, Electrician trade holders are eligible for Electrical Engineering Lateral, and Fitter or Turner trade holders are eligible for Mechanical Engineering Lateral. VOCLET is open to ITI certificate holders who are residents of West Bengal or have studied in West Bengal institutions.
Ques. Can a diploma lateral graduate from RERF pursue a B.Tech degree?
Ans. Yes. After completing the 2-year Diploma Lateral at RERF, graduates can apply for lateral entry into the 2nd year of B.Tech programmes in West Bengal through JELET (Joint Entrance for Lateral Entry Test) conducted by WBJEEB. This pathway allows ITI graduates to progress from their ITI certificate to a diploma at RERF and then to a B.Tech degree, building engineering qualifications step by step at an affordable cost.
Ques. What scholarships can RERF diploma lateral students apply for?
Ans. RERF diploma lateral students can apply for the Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship (SVMCM) for students scoring 60 per cent or more, the OASIS scheme for SC/ST/OBC students through the WB government portal, the Aikyashree scheme for minority students, and AICTE Pragati for female students and AICTE Saksham for differently-abled students through the AICTE portal. Applications for WB government scholarships are made at oasis.gov.in after securing admission.
Ques. How does the VOCLET counselling process work for RERF admission?
Ans. VOCLET (Vocational and Lateral Entry Test) is conducted by WBJEEB, typically between April and May. After results are declared, WBJEEB opens lateral diploma counselling for ITI certificate holders. Candidates register using their VOCLET rank, select their preferred stream and college (RERF) during online counselling, and receive a seat allotment letter. They then report to RERF with their ITI certificate and original documents for verification and pay the first-year fee to confirm admission. Check the WBJEEB portal for the current 2026 counselling schedule.
