UIE BE Cloud Computing FAQs
Ques. Is the BE (Hons.) Cloud Computing at Chandigarh University the same as regular BE CSE, or is it a different program with a different curriculum?
Ans. The BE (Hons.) Cloud Computing is a distinct specialization under the Apex Institute of Technology (AIT) at Chandigarh University, offered in collaboration with IBM. While it shares the core engineering foundation with regular BE CSE, the specialization subjects are entirely focused on cloud technologies - covering AWS, GCP, DevOps, serverless computing, cloud security, and multi-cloud solutions. Students also get access to IBM Software Labs and AWS Academy on campus, which are not part of the regular BE CSE program. The "Hons." designation reflects the additional depth and industry collaboration built into the curriculum.
Ques. What is the difference between BE (Hons.) Cloud Computing and BE (Hons.) CSE (Data Science or Cyber Security) at CU? Which one has better placements?
Ans. All three are IBM-collaborated Apex programs at CU with similar fee structures and strong placement support. Cloud Computing focuses on AWS/GCP/DevOps roles, Data Science targets analytics and AI/ML roles, and Cyber Security is oriented toward information security careers. In terms of placements, all three have comparable outcomes since they share the same placement cell and recruiter pool. Cloud Computing has seen strong demand from companies like Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Wipro, and Capgemini. The choice should be based on your interest area rather than placement statistics alone, as all three are equally well-supported.
Ques. Does Chandigarh University guarantee placements for BE Cloud Computing students, and what is the average package?
Ans. Chandigarh University does not officially guarantee placements, but it has a strong placement record. For the CSE/IT engineering branch (which includes Cloud Computing), the highest package reported is Rs. 54.75 LPA (Palo Alto Networks), and major recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, Wipro, Capgemini, TCS, HCL, and others. The university placed 2,030+ CSE/IT students in a single placement season. However, average packages for most students typically range between Rs. 4-8 LPA, and the high packages are for a small percentage of top performers. Students are advised to focus on building skills alongside academics to maximize placement outcomes.
Ques. Is CUCET mandatory for admission to BE Cloud Computing, or can I get admission directly through JEE Main?
Ans. CUCET is mandatory for most students, but there are two exceptions: (1) Candidates with a JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) within 50,000 can get direct admission without appearing for CUCET, and (2) Candidates who have scored 90% or above in their Class 12 board exams are also exempt from CUCET. For all other candidates, CUCET is compulsory and also serves as the scholarship eligibility test - a higher CUCET score translates to a higher scholarship on the semester fee, potentially up to 100%.
Ques. Can I switch from BE Cloud Computing to regular BE CSE after joining Chandigarh University if I am not satisfied with the specialization?
Ans. Branch or specialization changes at Chandigarh University are generally not permitted after admission, especially for Apex programs like BE (Hons.) Cloud Computing which are industry-collaborated and have a distinct curriculum structure. Students are advised to carefully evaluate their interest in cloud technologies before applying. However, the program itself is broad enough to open doors to general software development roles as well, since the core CSE subjects are covered alongside the cloud specialization. If you are unsure, it is recommended to speak with the admissions counselor before confirming your seat.
Ques. What AWS certifications can BE Cloud Computing students at CU pursue, and are they included in the fee?
Ans. Through the AWS Academy partnership, students get access to AWS tools and technologies for practicals, within-timetable training on AWS certifications, and globally recognized AWS certifications at highly discounted rates. The certifications students typically pursue include AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate), AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and AWS Certified Developer. These certifications are not included in the base tuition fee - students pay discounted rates for the certification exams separately. However, the training and lab access are integrated into the curriculum at no additional cost.
