MRU B.Tech AI&ML FAQs

Ques. Is the B.Tech AI&ML at MRU a standalone AI degree or a CSE degree with specialization?

Ans. This is a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, offered under the Honours category. It is not a standalone AI degree. The core curriculum covers standard CSE subjects like Data Structures, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and DBMS, while the specialization layers in subjects like Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Data Mining, and Image Processing from the 4th semester onwards. The Honours tag means students complete additional credits beyond the standard B.Tech requirements, giving them a more in-depth exposure to the specialization area.

Ques. What is the difference between the AI&ML program at MRU and the one at MRIIRS? Are they the same campus?

Ans. MRU (Manav Rachna University) and MRIIRS (Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies) are two separate institutions under the Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) umbrella, located on the same campus in Faridabad. The B.Tech CSE AI&ML at MRU is currently in association with HCL Guvi (formerly Xebia), while the MRIIRS version is in association with Microsoft. The degree, fee structure, and industry partner differ between the two. Students should check which institution they are applying to, as the degree certificate will reflect the respective university name.

Ques. Can I get admission to this program without a JEE Main score?

Ans. Yes, JEE Main is not mandatory for admission to this program at MRU. The university conducts its own entrance test called MRNAT (Manav Rachna National Aptitude Test), which is the primary route for admission and scholarship. Students can also apply using CUET or SAT scores. However, having a JEE Main score is beneficial as it can unlock significant scholarships – for instance, an AIR up to 50,000 in JEE Main qualifies for a 100% tuition fee waiver. Students without any of these scores can still apply directly and go through the counselling process.

Ques. What kind of internship and placement support does MRU provide for AI&ML students specifically?

Ans. Internships are a mandatory part of the curriculum at MRU for this program. The industry partnership with HCL Guvi (formerly Xebia) provides students with remote or onsite internship opportunities with Xebia or their clients. Additionally, the university has tie-ups with Google Cloud, MongoDB, UiPath, AWS, and Infosys for training, certifications, and placement support. The Career Resource and Corporate Development Centre (CRCDC) at MRU facilitates campus placements. The highest CTC offered to MRU students has been reported at 60 LPA, and over 600 MNCs and Indian corporates recruit from the campus. However, placement statistics specific to the AI&ML specialization are not separately published.

Ques. Is the hostel mandatory for this course, and what is the approximate annual cost of staying on campus?

Ans. Hostel accommodation at MRU is optional and not mandatory for this course. Students can choose to commute or stay in the hostel based on their preference. For AY 2026-27, the hostel fee for engineering students ranges from approximately INR ₹1,72,100 per year (4-seater Non-AC room) to INR ₹2,33,000 per year (3-seater AC room) for campus hostels. This includes rent, mess charges, medical care, insurance, laundry, and caution deposit. The hostel fee must be paid via Demand Draft after formal allotment by the university. Students from outside Delhi-NCR typically prefer on-campus accommodation given the Faridabad location.

Ques. What happens to my scholarship if I score a backlog in a semester?

Ans. Scholarship continuation at MRU is strictly conditional on academic performance. To retain the scholarship in subsequent semesters, a student must maintain a minimum SGPA of 7.5 in each semester without any active backlog, and must have at least 85% attendance in all courses. If a student fails to meet either of these conditions in any semester, the scholarship is discontinued for the following semester. Additionally, students must not be receiving any other scholarship from an external source, and must not have any disciplinary action pending against them. The scholarship is reviewed at the end of every semester before renewal.
