Ques. What is the significance of the Letter of Intent (LOI) offered at the time of admission?
Ans. MRU's partnership with TrueChip enables the university to offer eligible students a Letter of Intent (LOI) with a package of up to 6.5 LPA at the very time of admission. This is a conditional pre-placement offer that gives students confidence about their career prospects before they even begin the program. The LOI is subject to the student meeting academic performance benchmarks during the course of the program.
Ques. What EDA tools will I learn during this program, and are they industry-standard?
Ans. Yes, the program uses industry-standard Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools including Cadence, Synopsys, and Mentor Graphics, which are the same tools used by leading semiconductor companies like Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD. Students also learn VHDL and Verilog for hardware description, SystemVerilog for advanced verification, and UVM (Universal Verification Methodology) for functional verification, making them job-ready for core VLSI roles.
Ques. How is this program different from a regular B.Tech in ECE?
Ans. While a regular B.Tech ECE covers broad topics in electronics and communication, this specialization focuses specifically on VLSI design and verification from the third semester onwards. The curriculum is co-designed and co-delivered by TrueChip, ensuring it is aligned with actual industry requirements. Students also get access to exclusive internships at TrueChip and partner semiconductor firms, and the program culminates in a Capstone Project that mirrors real-world chip design challenges.
Ques. What are the career prospects and salary expectations after this program?
Ans. Entry-level VLSI engineers typically earn between Rs. 4 LPA and Rs. 8 LPA, with experienced professionals at top semiconductor companies earning Rs. 12 LPA or more. Graduates can pursue roles such as VLSI Design Engineer, ASIC Verification Engineer, FPGA Developer, Embedded Systems Engineer, and SoC Design Engineer. Ques. What is the difference in fees between this ECE-VLSI program and the CSE specialization programs at MRU?
Ans. The B.Tech ECE (VLSI Design and Verification) program costs Rs. 2,56,500 per annum (total Rs. 10,26,000 for 4 years), which is lower than the CSE specialization programs (Rs. 3,33,800 per annum / Rs. 13,35,200 for 4 years). The difference is primarily in the training partner fee component. Both programs follow the same payment schedule structure with two installments per year and the same hostel, scholarship, and loan facilities.
