Ques. Is the B.Tech Quantum Computing at MRU a standalone degree or a specialization within CSE?
Ans. It is a specialization within B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (Hons.), officially titled B.Tech CSE (Hons.) with Specialization in Quantum Computing, offered in collaboration with CDAC. The degree awarded is a B.Tech in CSE with the Quantum Computing specialization mentioned on the degree certificate. Students complete the same core CSE foundation in the first two years and then dive into quantum-specific subjects from the third year onwards, making them proficient in both classical and quantum computing paradigms.
Ques. What tools and platforms will I work on during the program?
Ans. The curriculum is designed to give hands-on exposure to industry-standard quantum computing platforms including IBM Qiskit, Google Cirq, and AWS Braket. Students also get access to LinkedIn Learning licenses and GitHub accounts throughout the program. The department follows a learning-by-doing pedagogy with dedicated computer labs maintaining a 1:1 student-to-computer ratio, ensuring every student gets direct practical experience.
Ques. Do I need a background in quantum physics to apply for this program?
Ans. No prior knowledge of quantum physics is required. The program is designed to be beginner-friendly and starts with foundational concepts of quantum mechanics and linear algebra before progressing to advanced topics like quantum algorithms, quantum cryptography, and quantum machine learning. The curriculum is structured to build quantum intuition gradually alongside core computer science subjects.
Ques. What is the difference between the annual fee shown on the website (Rs. 3,33,800) and the total program cost?
Ans. The Rs. 3,33,800 is the annual fee for AY 2026-27. This is paid in two installments each year: Rs. 2,13,900 in the first installment and Rs. 1,19,900 in the second installment. Over the full 4-year duration of the program, the total fee amounts to approximately Rs. 13,35,200. This figure covers tuition, development, student resource, university, and training partner (CDAC) fees but does not include hostel, transport, or personal expenses.
Ques. Can I get admission without appearing for JEE Main? What are the other options?
Ans. Yes, JEE Main is not mandatory for admission to MRU. The university accepts multiple entrance scores including MRNAT (its own aptitude test), SAT, and CUET. Students can also be considered on the basis of their Class XII qualifying examination marks. MRNAT Phase II is scheduled for April 25-27, 2026, and is also an entrance-cum-scholarship test, meaning a high MRNAT score can earn up to 100% tuition fee waiver under the Utkarsh scheme.
Ques. What career roles can I expect after completing this program, and are there any placement opportunities specific to Quantum Computing?
Ans. Graduates of this program are positioned for emerging roles such as Quantum Algorithm Researcher, Quantum Software Engineer, Quantum ML Engineer, Cybersecurity Analyst (Post-Quantum Era), and Quantum Cloud Engineer. While dedicated quantum computing placements are still an emerging area in India, the strong CSE foundation ensures graduates are also eligible for conventional software and AI/ML roles. MRU's placement cell (CRCDC) supports students with 600+ MNC and Indian corporate recruiters, and the highest CTC offered at MRU has been 60 LPA. Students interested in research can also pursue M.Tech, MS, or PhD in Quantum Computing at institutions like IISc, IITs, DRDO, or ISRO.
