GITAM M.Pharm Pharmacology FAQs
Ques. Is GPAT mandatory for admission to M.Pharm (Pharmacology) at GITAM Visakhapatnam, or can I apply without it?
Ans. GPAT is not strictly mandatory for admission at GITAM. Candidates can also apply through AP PGECET (for Andhra Pradesh state quota seats) or through GITAM's own entrance test (GAT). However, having a valid GPAT score is strongly recommended as it makes you eligible for the AICTE PG Scholarship of Rs. 12,400 per month, which significantly offsets the course fees. Students without GPAT can still secure admission through the management quota or via GITAM's internal test, but they will not be eligible for the AICTE stipend.
Ques. What is the actual research exposure like in the M.Pharm Pharmacology programme at GITAM?
Ans. The Department of Pharmacology at GITAM Visakhapatnam has active funded research projects, including a SERB-TARE grant worth Rs. 18.3 Lakhs focused on nanostructured lipid carriers for cancer therapy. Students in the M.Pharm Pharmacology programme are typically involved in dissertation work in the second year, which may align with ongoing departmental research. The department has access to advanced instruments like LC-MS and HPLC, and faculty members have published in peer-reviewed journals. However, the depth of research involvement can vary depending on the guide assigned and the project topic.
Ques. What are the career options after completing M.Pharm (Pharmacology) from GITAM?
Ans. Graduates of M.Pharm (Pharmacology) from GITAM can pursue careers in pharmaceutical companies (in drug discovery, preclinical research, and pharmacovigilance), clinical research organizations (CROs), regulatory affairs departments, and government drug testing laboratories. Many graduates also opt for Ph.D. programmes in India or abroad. GITAM's placement cell facilitates campus recruitment, and the school has connections with companies in the pharma and healthcare sector. Some alumni have gone on to roles as Scientists, Senior Managers, and Drug Inspectors.
Ques. How does the fee payment work at GITAM - is it annual or semester-wise?
Ans. GITAM offers both annual and semester-wise fee payment options. If you pay annually, the standard fee applies. If you opt for semester-wise payment, an additional 3% charge is levied on the tuition fee. For M.Pharm (Pharmacology), the Year 1 fee is approximately Rs. 2,03,700 and Year 2 is approximately Rs. 2,24,300, totalling Rs. 4,28,000 for the full course. Scholarship candidates must complete fee payment by May 24, 2026, while the general deadline for admission and fee payment is May 30, 2026.
Ques. Can students from outside Andhra Pradesh apply for M.Pharm (Pharmacology) at GITAM Visakhapatnam?
Ans. Yes, students from any state in India can apply for M.Pharm (Pharmacology) at GITAM Visakhapatnam. GITAM is a Deemed-to-be University and admits students on an all-India basis through GPAT scores and its own entrance test (GAT). AP PGECET is specifically for Andhra Pradesh state quota seats and is primarily relevant for AP domicile candidates. Out-of-state students typically apply through the GITAM portal directly using their GPAT score or by appearing for the GITAM entrance test.
Ques. What is the attendance requirement and are there any strict academic rules for M.Pharm students at GITAM?
Ans. GITAM enforces a strict 75% minimum attendance requirement for all programmes, including M.Pharm. Students who fall below this threshold are not permitted to appear in semester examinations. Several student reviews highlight that attendance is monitored closely, and even missing a single class can noticeably impact the attendance percentage given the small batch size of 12 students. Additionally, scholarship continuation (both GITAM and AICTE) requires maintaining a CGPA of 8.0 or above, so academic performance is equally critical throughout the programme.
