Class 8 Science Chapter 18 Pollution of Air and Water: Important Topics


Pollution is known as the contaminants introduced in our nature which has an adverse change in the natural environment and the living organism. Those substances that act as contaminants are called pollutants, e.g., smoke, dust, high level of noise, excess heat and light, garbage, etc. Pollution is one of the major environmental issues.

  • Air Pollution

Air pollution is referred to any physical, chemical or biological change in the air. It affects plants, animals and humans drastically and is the contamination of air by harmful gases, dust and smoke. There is a certain percentage of gases present in the atmosphere. 

  • Water Pollution

Water pollution can be referred to as the contamination of water bodies, which is caused when water bodies such as rivers, lakes, oceans, groundwater and aquifers get contaminated with industrial and agricultural effluents.
