University of Potsdam fees for Indian students are among the lowest in Germany: tuition is €0 (INR 0) for Bachelor’s and consecutive Master’s programmes, with only a semester contribution of €372.80 (INR 40,576) payable each term. Popular Indian Master’s picks here, MS Data Science, MS Computer Science, MA Linguistics, and MSc Psychology, all sit under the same tuition-free consecutive model.

  • Bachelor’s tuition: €0 (INR 0) per year, consecutive programmes
  • Master’s tuition: €0 (INR 0) per year, consecutive programmes
  • Semester contribution: €372.80 (INR 40,576) per semester, both intakes
  • DAAD Degree Completion Grant: €700 (INR 76,188) per month, up to 5 months
  • Uni-assist processing: €75 (INR 8,163) first application, €30 (INR 3,265) each additional

All-in for an Indian student, a 2-year Master’s at Potsdam costs roughly INR 25 to 27 Lakhs including living and mandatory charges. A 3-year Bachelor’s runs about INR 38 to 40 Lakhs on the same basis. This budget assumes public transport is free (bundled in the semester ticket) and living at Studentenwerk rates.

Exchange rate used throughout: 1 EUR = INR 108.84 (source: xe.com, fetched 29 July 2026 IST).

University of Potsdam Tuition Fees by Programme

Tuition at University of Potsdam is €0 (INR 0) for every consecutive Bachelor’s and consecutive Master’s programme, in line with Brandenburg state law.

  • The only academic charge is the semester contribution of €372.80 (INR 40,576) per semester, which covers student services and the VBB semester ticket for buses, trams, and regional trains across Berlin and Brandenburg.
  • Non-consecutive (weiterbildende) Master’s, executive programmes, and certain professional certificates are the exceptions and may charge a course fee.

University of Potsdam Undergraduate Tuition Fees

Bachelor’s programmes are almost entirely taught in German and require a DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, the German university entrance exam) or TestDaF certificate. For an Indian student, the annual academic outlay is limited to the semester contribution paid twice per year.

Programme (Bachelor’s) Annual Tuition (EUR) Annual Tuition (INR) Annual Semester Contribution
BSc Computer Science (German-taught) €0 INR 0 €745.60 (INR 81,151)
BSc Mathematics €0 INR 0 €745.60 (INR 81,151)

BSc Economics €0 INR 0 €745.60 (INR 81,151)

University of Potsdam Postgraduate Tuition Fees

Master’s programmes are the primary Indian-applied route. Every consecutive Master’s on the list below charges zero tuition; the annual outlay is only the semester contribution. English-taught availability varies by programme, so verify the language of instruction before applying.

Programme (Master’s) Annual Tuition (EUR) Annual Tuition (INR) Annual Semester Contribution
MSc Data Science €0 INR 0 €745.60 (INR 81,151)
MSc Computer Science €0 INR 0 €745.60 (INR 81,151)

Note: Uni-assist (the central application processing agency German universities use for international documents) charges €75 (INR 8,163) for your first application and €30 (INR 3,265) per additional programme in the same term. Bundle 3 to 4 Potsdam programmes in one submission to save on repeated document evaluation.

University of Potsdam Scholarships for Indian Students

Because tuition is already €0 (INR 0), scholarships at Potsdam function as living-cost stipends, not fee waivers. The DAAD ecosystem is the main channel for Indian students, with the DAAD Degree Completion Grant and DAAD EPOS Master’s scholarships doing most of the funding work, alongside India-side private awards.

Scholarship Monthly Amount Duration Who It Fits
DAAD Degree Completion Grant (Studienabschlussbeihilfe) €700 (INR 76,188) Up to 5 months Enrolled international students in final year, financial-need based
DAAD EPOS Master’s Scholarship (Development-Related) €992 (INR 1,08,050) 12 to 24 months Working professionals from India with 2+ years relevant experience
DAAD Prize Lump sum €1,000 (INR 1,08,840) One-time Enrolled international students with outstanding academic and social record
Deutschlandstipendium €300 (INR 32,652) 1 to 2 semesters, renewable All enrolled students, merit-based, co-funded by private donors

University of Potsdam Tuition and Semester Fee Payment Options

Because tuition is €0, there is no traditional tuition deposit at Potsdam. What you actually pay to secure your seat is the semester contribution of €372.80 (INR 40,576), transferred within roughly 4 weeks of admission.

  • This payment triggers your matriculation, activates your student ID, and generates the enrolment certificate you need for the visa file.
  • The semester contribution is non-refundable once matriculation is complete and is counted toward the mandatory academic charge, not toward tuition (because there is none).

Methods of payment accepted by University of Potsdam:

  • SEPA bank transfer from a German account (the university’s default and lowest-fee option, used after arrival)
  • International wire transfer (SWIFT) from India (typical fee INR 1,500 to INR 2,500 per transfer plus 2% to 4% FX spread from Indian banks)
  • Wise or Remitly transfer (0.5% to 1% FX spread, mid-market rate, saves 2% to 3% versus an SBI or ICICI wire)
  • Forex card preloaded in EUR (useful for the first-semester rent deposit and living costs, not for the semester contribution itself)
  • Education-loan disbursement direct from an Indian lender (HDFC Credila, Avanse, Axis Bank) to the university via SWIFT

Steps to pay the semester fee as an international student:

  1. Accept your admission offer in the PULS portal within the deadline stated on the offer letter
  2. Download the payment slip from PULS with your unique payment reference number, IBAN, and BIC
  3. Transfer €372.80 (INR 40,576) via Wise, SWIFT, or SEPA quoting the exact reference number on the slip
  4. Upload the transfer confirmation to PULS and complete online enrolment
  5. Download your enrolment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) and include it in your visa application file

The semester contribution is paid every 6 months for as long as you are enrolled. The full-year cost is €745.60 (INR 81,151), split into two equal instalments. There is no full-payment discount because the fee is already at cost-recovery level, and no instalment plan below one semester.

Tip for Indian Students: Your Summer 2027 semester fee of €372.80 (INR 40,576) will fall due in February 2027, roughly 4 weeks after admission letters go out in late January. International wire transfers to Germany can take 4 to 7 working days to clear, so initiate the transfer within 72 hours of receiving your PULS reference number to avoid any matriculation delay that would push your visa appointment back.

Hidden Costs of Studying at University of Potsdam

The most under-budgeted item for the Summer 2027 intake is the blocked account of €11,904 (INR 12.96 Lakhs), which must be funded and shown to the German embassy in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, or Kolkata before your visa appointment. The money is yours, released to you at €992 (INR 1,08,050) per month after arrival, but families frequently confuse it with a fee and undersize their loan.

  • Blocked account (Sperrkonto): €11,904 (INR 12.96 Lakhs) held with Expatrio, Fintiba, or Deutsche Bank; setup fees €50 to €150 (INR 5,442 to INR 16,326)
  • German National Visa (Type D, study): €75 (INR 8,163) fee, paid at the German mission in India
  • Uni-assist evaluation: €75 (INR 8,163) first application, €30 (INR 3,265) per additional programme
  • APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle): INR 18,000 mandatory for Indian applicants, adds 4 to 6 weeks to the timeline
  • Health insurance one-time enrolment: €50 to €100 (INR 5,442 to INR 10,884) for the first-month upfront payment
  • Winter clothing: €200 to €400 (INR 21,768 to INR 43,536) one-time, essential for October arrival

Total first-year hidden costs typically land between INR 1.6 and INR 2.4 Lakhs above the tuition and living budget, driven mostly by winter setup, insurance top-ups, and remittance charges.

Fee Saving Strategies for University of Potsdam Indian Students

The single most urgent saving for this intake cycle is Studentenwerk dorm housing: applying the day your offer arrives lets you clear the 9-month waiting list before your October 2027 arrival, saving roughly INR 15,000 to INR 30,000 per month versus a private studio for the entire 24-month Master’s.

  • Studentenwerk housing: rooms from €260 (INR 28,298) per month; apply within 48 hours of admission to beat the queue
  • Public health insurance (TK, AOK): €100 (INR 10,884) per month versus €160 (INR 17,414) for private cover, saves INR 78,000 across 2 years
  • Part-time work (Werkstudent role): 20 hours per week during term at €13 to €17 (INR 1,415 to INR 1,850) per hour, roughly €900 to €1,300 (INR 97,956 to INR 1,41,492) per month gross, tax-free within 120-day annual limit
  • Section 80E of Indian Income Tax Act: full interest deduction on your education loan EMI for up to 8 years post-repayment start, worth INR 40,000 to INR 80,000 per year to your family
  • 18-month post-study job-search visa: Germany’s post-study residence permit lets you stay 18 months after graduation to find work, so the loan starts repaying from Euro salary, not INR income
  • English-taught Master’s: skip DSH and TestDaF prep costs (typically INR 30,000 to INR 60,000) by choosing an English-taught programme like MSc Data Science

Tip for Indian Students: The highest single-lever saving is the Werkstudent job. Twenty hours a week during term at €15 (INR 1,633) an hour brings in about €1,200 (INR 1,30,608) per month, tax-exempt within the 120-day rule, which fully covers Studentenwerk rent and food combined. Register on the Potsdam Career Service portal in your first fortnight on campus.

Is University of Potsdam Worth the Cost for Indian Students?

An all-in 2-year Master’s cost of INR 26 to 27 Lakhs at University of Potsdam is one of the strongest ROI positions in global higher education for an Indian student, because tuition is €0 and the entire outlay is living costs. Entry-level MSc Data Science and MSc Computer Science graduates in the Berlin-Brandenburg tech corridor earn a starting salary of roughly €55,000 to €65,000 (INR 59.86 Lakhs to INR 70.75 Lakhs) per year, gross.

  • On loan payback: a 25 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years carries an EMI of about INR 33,700 per month. Against a Berlin entry salary of €4,000 (INR 4.35 Lakhs) gross per month (roughly €2,500 or INR 2.72 Lakhs net after German tax), the EMI absorbs about 12% of your net income, well inside the 30% affordability rule most lenders apply.
  • Germany’s 18-month post-study residence permit gives you the runway to secure that job before the moratorium ends and repayments begin in INR.

Key Insight: Because tuition is €0, your effective payback horizon on a 25 Lakh loan against a €55,000 Berlin salary is roughly 3 to 4 years of active repayment. Compare that to a UK Russell Group Master’s at a comparable rank, where 2-year all-in cost runs INR 55 to 70 Lakhs, and Potsdam’s price-to-outcome ratio is roughly twice as favourable.

The Summer 2027 and Winter 2027/28 intakes both leave you at an all-in budget of roughly INR 26 to 27 Lakhs for a full 2-year Master’s at University of Potsdam, of which zero is tuition. Layered scholarships (DAAD EPOS, Inlaks, JN Tata) can pull the net cost down by INR 8 to 15 Lakhs, and the resulting 15 to 20 Lakh education loan carries an EMI of about INR 20,200 to INR 27,000, which a Berlin entry-level Data Science or Computer Science salary comfortably absorbs. Your one action this fortnight is to file the APS certificate application, that single 4 to 6 week timeline governs your entire visa file.
