Furtwangen University fees for Indian students land at €3,352 (₹3.65 Lakhs) per year for regular Bachelor and Master degrees, and €12,528 (₹13.64 Lakhs) total for the full-time International Business Management MBA at the Schwenningen campus. The English-taught choices Indian applicants pick most often are the MSc Biomedical Engineering, MSc Computer Science, MSc Computer Science in Media, and the International Business Management MBA.

Two intakes are workable for Indian applicants starting the process today: Summer Semester 2027 (April 2027 start) and Winter Semester 2027/28 (October 2027 start). The full-time International Business Management MBA runs Winter-only, so it targets Winter 2027/28; the Executive MBA International Business Management runs Summer-only and targets Summer 2027.

  • Regular Bachelor and Master tuition (Baden-Württemberg non-EU state fee): €1,500 (₹1.63 Lakhs) per semester
  • Semester contribution (every programme, every student, includes Deutschlandticket): €176 (₹19,161) per semester
  • Full-time International Business Management MBA, three semesters: €12,000 (₹13.06 Lakhs) tuition
  • Executive Master International Business Management, four semesters part-time: €18,000 (₹19.60 Lakhs) tuition
  • MBA IBM merit scholarship (top two grade-holders in semester one): €2,000 (₹2.18 Lakhs) reduction on semester two

A three-year Bachelor at HFU totals roughly ₹10.95 Lakhs in tuition and a two-year Master roughly ₹7.30 Lakhs; the full-time MBA plus 18 months of Schwenningen living costs pushes the total budget to around ₹32 Lakhs. Blocked account proof of €11,904 (₹12.96 Lakhs) for the German student visa is a deposit released monthly, not a spent cost.

Exchange rate used across this page: €1 = ₹108.87 (xe.com, 28 July 2026 IST).

Summer 2027 and Winter 2027/28 Intakes: Planning Cycle for Indian Applicants

Intake: Summer Semester 2027 accepts non-EU applications up to 15 November 2026; Winter Semester 2027/28 accepts them up to 15 May 2027. The full-time MBA IBM runs Winter-only with a non-EU deadline of 31 March, so its next intake is Winter 2027/28. APS certificate (mandatory for Indian applicants since November 2022) plus the 6-12 week German student visa need 10-20 weeks total, which rules out Winter 2026/27 for anyone starting the process now.

Fee update: The 2026/27 rate applies to Summer 2027 and to Winter 2027/28 semesters, €1,500 (₹1.63 Lakhs) state tuition and €176 (₹19,161) contribution. Baden-Württemberg has kept the non-EU tuition flat at €1,500 since it was introduced in Winter 2017/18 and has announced no change for 2027/28.

When to pay: HFU sends the admission letter first; the €1,676 (₹1.82 Lakhs) semester fee is paid once, at enrolment, and unlocks the certificate needed for the visa file. No separate deposit is charged to hold the offer.

Scholarships: Deutschlandstipendium (€300, ₹32,661 per month) opens each semester to enrolled students on merit. DAAD EPOS closes 31 October 2026 for the 2027 intake. Inlaks (closes 12 March 2027) and JN Tata Endowment (closes 31 March 2027) fund Master-level study abroad for Indian nationals.

See our Furtwangen University Admissions 2026 guide for the full APS timeline, MIO portal walkthrough, and document checklist for Indian applicants.

Furtwangen University Tuition Fees by Programme for Indian Students

Furtwangen University charges the same Baden-Württemberg non-EU state fee, €1,500 (₹1.63 Lakhs) per semester, across all regular Bachelor and Master degrees. Only eight professional Master programmes (AIM, BCM, EBM, MBX, MBA, MRA, PMM, SEM) sit outside that rate and set their own tuition. Every student, on every programme, also pays the semester contribution of €176 (₹19,161), which covers the Deutschlandticket public transport pass and the student union services.

Furtwangen University Bachelor Fees for Indian Students

All English-taught Bachelor degrees at HFU run six semesters (three years) and share the standard state fee. There is no application fee at HFU; the MIO portal is free to use.

Furtwangen University Master Fees for Indian Students

Regular English-taught Master programmes run three or four semesters and are billed at the same state fee. The MBA in International Business Management sits outside the state fee and charges its own programme rate.

Note: The eight professional Master programmes flagged by HFU (AIM, BCM, EBM, MBX, MBA, MRA, PMM, SEM) are exempt from the €1,500 state fee and charge their own programme tuition, which can be higher than the regular Master rate. If a Master programme you are shortlisting sits in that list, request the current fee schedule from international@hs-furtwangen.de before you build a budget.

Furtwangen University Fee Trend by Year

Tuition at HFU is unusually stable for a study-abroad destination: the Baden-Württemberg non-EU state fee of €1,500 per semester has held flat every year since Winter Semester 2017/18. Only the semester contribution, which every student pays, has drifted upward by a few euros each year to cover student services and public transport.

Source: HFU tuition and study fees; Baden-Württemberg Landeshochschulgesetz (state higher education act) non-EU tuition rules, unchanged since Winter 2017/18. Contribution history compiled from HFU semester enrolment archives.

Key Insight: Whether you enrol for Summer Semester 2027 or wait for Winter Semester 2027/28, the total tuition is identical: €3,352 (₹3.65 Lakhs) per year for a regular Bachelor or Master programme. Delaying a semester does not raise your bill at HFU, unlike UK or Australian universities where the fee-year clock ticks up 4-8% annually.

Cost of Living in Furtwangen and Schwenningen for Indian Students

HFU tells all applicants to budget a baseline of €670 (₹72,943) per month for living costs in Furtwangen or Villingen-Schwenningen; the MBA IBM programme page uses a higher €934 (₹1,01,685) figure that accounts for Schwenningen city rents. Both towns sit inside the Black Forest and are meaningfully cheaper than Munich, Frankfurt, or Berlin, but they are not the cheapest German student cities either.

Source: HFU MBA IBM programme page (living cost figure); Studierendenwerk Freiburg-Schwarzwald student housing rates; HFU International Center recommended monthly budget of €670.

Note: The German student visa asks for proof of €11,904 (₹12.96 Lakhs) in a blocked account for one year, which equals €992 (₹1.08 Lakhs) per month. That figure is set by the federal government, not HFU, and it is the number the consulate checks even if your real Furtwangen expenses are closer to €670 (₹72,943) per month. The blocked account holds the money; it is not spent, and it is released back to you monthly after arrival.

The €176 (₹19,161) semester contribution is not just an administrative charge. It funds the Deutschlandticket (€58, ₹6,315 monthly value) plus student union services, and it is one of the reasons German universities are cheaper to live at than aggregators suggest: you do not need a separate transport pass on top of tuition.

Currency Tip: Your first semester fee of €1,676 (₹1.82 Lakhs) is due at enrolment for Summer 2027 or Winter 2027/28. Fund the blocked account through Expatrio or Fintiba, both charge €89 (₹9,689) setup rather than a 2-3% wire spread, and use a forex card at Aldi or Lidl during the first weeks; both save you two to three percent over an SBI or Axis raw telegraphic transfer.

Total Cost of Studying at Furtwangen University

The total budget varies mainly by programme length and by whether you land in a regular Master or in the MBA. Year one is the heaviest since it carries one-time visa and setup costs.

ScenarioTuition (Year 1)Living (Year 1)One-Time SetupTotal Year 1 (INR)
Bachelor (BSc/BEng), regular fee€3,352 / ₹3.65 Lakhs€8,040 / ₹8.75 Lakhs~₹36,000₹12.76 Lakhs
Master (MSc), regular fee€3,352 / ₹3.65 Lakhs€8,040 / ₹8.75 Lakhs~₹36,000₹12.76 Lakhs
MBA International Business Management (full-time)€8,352 / ₹9.09 Lakhs€11,208 / ₹12.20 Lakhs~₹36,000₹21.65 Lakhs
Executive MBA International Business Management (part-time)€9,352 / ₹10.18 Lakhs€11,208 / ₹12.20 Lakhs~₹36,000₹22.74 Lakhs

Tuition Year 1 = two semesters. Living cost uses the 12-month German rental reality (blocked account releases €992 per month for 12 months). One-time setup = visa €75 (₹8,165) + APS certificate ₹18,000 + blocked account setup €89 (₹9,689). MBA scenarios use HFU’s €934/month living figure for Schwenningen.

Full programme totals: a three-year Bachelor at HFU runs about ₹36-42 Lakhs, a two-year MSc about ₹24-30 Lakhs, and the full-time MBA IBM about ₹31-33 Lakhs over 18 months. On a ₹25 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over ten years the EMI is roughly ₹33,500 per month; on a ₹40 Lakh loan it is roughly ₹54,000 per month. The Section 80E tax deduction covers the loan interest for eight assessment years with no cap.

Key Insight: The one number you fully control in the HFU budget is the housing choice. A Studierendenwerk hall room at €358 (₹38,976) instead of a €700 (₹76,209) private flat saves €4,104 (₹4.47 Lakhs) per year, larger than the entire annual tuition of ₹3.65 Lakhs on regular programmes. Book on swfr.de the day you receive the offer for Winter 2027/28, halls fill for October semester by mid-July 2027.

Furtwangen University Scholarships for Indian Students

HFU itself runs a small merit scholarship for the MBA IBM programme and administers the federal Deutschlandstipendium; the bigger funding for Indian applicants comes from external DAAD and India-side awards that stack with HFU’s low tuition.

Tip for Indian Students: If you are targeting Winter 2027/28, the DAAD EPOS deadline of 31 October 2026 is the highest-value external window in this planning cycle; a successful EPOS award covers your full living cost of ₹1.08 Lakhs per month, effectively zeroing out HFU’s low tuition burden. Stack it with the Deutschlandstipendium once enrolled, that adds another €300 (₹32,661) monthly.

Furtwangen University Enrolment Fee and Payment Options

Furtwangen University does not charge a separate acceptance deposit. The €1,676 (₹1.82 Lakhs) semester fee is due at enrolment and, once paid, unlocks the enrolment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung) that goes into the German student visa file.

Methods of payment

  • SEPA bank transfer to the HFU account listed on the enrolment invoice, typical Indian TT clearing time is 2-4 working days
  • Wire transfer via SBI, Axis, HDFC or ICICI education-loan disbursement direct to the university IBAN
  • Expatrio All-in-One or Fintiba Blocked Account plus tuition transfer, adds no extra spread
  • Forex card top-up followed by online SEPA push through your German current account after arrival, avoids the 2-3% wire spread charged on raw telegraphic transfers

Steps to pay the tuition fee for international students

  1. Receive the admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) through the MIO portal
  2. Confirm your place by returning the acceptance form; enrolment invoice with IBAN is issued next
  3. Transfer €1,676 (₹1.82 Lakhs) to the HFU account, quoting the reference number from the invoice
  4. Once payment clears, HFU issues the enrolment certificate; upload it to the digital.diplo.de visa portal
  5. Save every SWIFT confirmation and enrolment receipt for the visa interview and the Section 80E loan file

Source: HFU Enrolment page; HFU tuition and study fees.

Tip for Indian Students: For the Summer Semester 2027 intake, submit your MIO application before 15 November 2026 so the admission letter reaches you by mid-December 2026; you then have roughly 8-10 weeks to pay the semester fee, obtain the enrolment certificate, and book the visa slot. SBI YONO SWIFT transfers to a German IBAN typically clear in 3-5 working days, so allow at least a two-week buffer before your visa appointment date.

Hidden Costs of Studying at Furtwangen University

These are the costs the fee page does not list but the visa officer and your first-month landlord will. Budget for them upfront so they do not eat into your first semester’s living allowance.

  • APS certificate for Indian applicants: ₹18,000 one-time, mandatory since November 2022 and required before you can submit the MIO application. Processing takes 4-8 weeks at the German Embassy in New Delhi.
  • Blocked account setup: €89 (₹9,689) at Expatrio or Fintiba; the €11,904 (₹12.96 Lakhs) locked inside is not a cost, it is released to you at €992 (₹1.08 Lakhs) monthly after arrival.
  • German student visa (National Visa Category D): €75 (₹8,165) payable at the German consulate in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, or Chennai.
  • IELTS or TOEFL: ₹17,000 one-time, most HFU English-taught programmes accept IELTS 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT 80.
  • Winter clothing on arrival: €200-300 (₹21,774 to ₹32,661) in the first month. Black Forest winters run below zero from December through March; kurtis and light jackets will not do.
  • Health insurance during application month: €110 (₹11,976) for the pre-enrolment travel/health cover before you switch to the statutory GKV (Techniker Krankenkasse or AOK) as a student.
  • Deposit for private flat (if not in student halls): 2-3 months’ rent, refundable at lease end; €1,400 to €2,100 (₹1.52 to ₹2.29 Lakhs) held in Kaution.

Budget approximately ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 for first-year hidden costs excluding the blocked account and rent deposit, both of which are recoverable.

Note: The one hidden cost most Indian families forget is the rent Kaution for private housing: a Furtwangen or Villingen-Schwenningen landlord will ask for two to three months’ rent upfront as a security deposit, €700 to €2,100 (₹76,209 to ₹2.29 Lakhs), which is not covered by the blocked account monthly release. Choosing a Studierendenwerk hall room removes this cost entirely.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students at Furtwangen University

The largest saving lever for a Summer 2027 or Winter 2027/28 intake is not tuition, since that is already among the lowest in the study-abroad market, but living costs, healthcare, and part-time work timing.

  • Take a Studierendenwerk hall room over a private flat: saves €4,000 to €5,000 (₹4.35 to ₹5.44 Lakhs) per year and eliminates the Kaution deposit
  • Work the full 140 full-days student allowance: at Baden-Württemberg’s €13.90 (₹1,513) hourly minimum, a 20-hour week during semester earns roughly €1,112 (₹1.21 Lakhs) per month, enough to cover living costs entirely; HiWi (student assistant) roles at HFU do not count against the 140-day quota
  • Claim the Section 80E tax deduction: the interest on any Indian education loan for HFU is fully deductible for up to 8 assessment years with no cap on the amount
  • Use the 18-month post-study work visa: Germany’s Job-Seeker residence permit gives every HFU graduate 18 months to find work; a €45,000 (₹48.99 Lakhs) starting salary in Baden-Württemberg engineering roles clears a ₹25 Lakh EMI (₹33,500 per month) with room to spare
  • Confirm your programme is on the regular €1,500 state fee list, not the professional MBA list: a Master in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or AI runs €6,704 (₹7.30 Lakhs) total, half the €12,528 (₹13.64 Lakhs) charged for the MBA IBM programme

Tip for Indian Students: The single highest-value lever this cycle is choosing a regular MSc over a professional MBA if career flexibility allows: an MSc Computer Science at HFU costs €6,704 (₹7.30 Lakhs) tuition versus €12,528 (₹13.64 Lakhs) for the MBA IBM, a saving of ₹6.34 Lakhs over the full programme, before you add the 18-month post-study Job-Seeker visa that both routes share.

Is Furtwangen University Worth the Cost for Indian Students

At a total programme budget of ₹24-30 Lakhs for a two-year MSc or ₹31-33 Lakhs for the 18-month full-time MBA, HFU sits well below the ₹50-70 Lakh outlay for a comparable UK or Australian degree, and the 18-month German post-study work visa gives you longer to convert study into salary than most peer destinations. For engineering and computer science applicants, the applied-sciences focus is a genuine fit: HFU has been repeatedly voted the most popular University of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg.

Germany’s post-study rules currently allow graduates 18 months to seek qualified employment after finishing the degree, and this policy has been in force for international graduates under the Skilled Immigration Act (Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz). A ₹25 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years works out to an EMI of roughly ₹33,500 per month; a Baden-Württemberg engineering starting salary of €45,000 (₹48.99 Lakhs) annually, which translates to roughly ₹4.08 Lakhs monthly gross, absorbs that EMI comfortably. Even on a more conservative €38,000 (₹41.37 Lakhs) starting salary in health informatics or media production roles, the EMI stays under 12% of gross pay, well inside a sustainable range.

Key Insight: For a Winter 2027/28 MSc intake at HFU, the net cost after a Deutschlandstipendium award (€3,600 or ₹3.92 Lakhs per year) falls to approximately ₹20-26 Lakhs across the two-year programme. At a ₹4 Lakh monthly starting salary in Germany, that loan payback horizon is under three years of net-of-EMI savings, making HFU one of the shortest payback bets available to an Indian STEM applicant this cycle.

A regular Bachelor or Master at Furtwangen University costs around ₹12.76 Lakhs in Year 1 with a two-year MSc total near ₹24-30 Lakhs, the full-time MBA IBM adds up to about ₹32 Lakhs, and both routes carry Germany’s 18-month post-study work visa. Deutschlandstipendium and DAAD EPOS can trim €3,600 to €11,904 (₹3.92 to ₹12.96 Lakhs) off the annual bill for Indian students, and a ₹25 Lakh education loan settles at a manageable ₹33,500 monthly EMI. The one action to take before Summer Semester 2027 closes on 15 November 2026: start the APS certificate application immediately, since it holds up MIO submission by 4-8 weeks.

Ques. Is Furtwangen University free for Indian students?

Ans. No. Since Winter Semester 2017/18, all public universities in Baden-Württemberg (which includes HFU) charge non-EU students €1,500 (₹1.63 Lakhs) per semester. HFU is not free, but it remains one of the most affordable study-abroad destinations at roughly ₹3.65 Lakhs per year for regular programmes, well below UK or Australian tuition.

Ques. What is the application fee at Furtwangen University?

Ans. HFU does not charge any application fee. Indian applicants apply directly through the MIO portal at mio.hs-furtwangen.de; uni-assist is not used. The first fee you pay is the €1,676 (₹1.82 Lakhs) semester fee at enrolment, after receiving your admission letter.

Ques. What is the cost of living for Indian students at Furtwangen or Schwenningen?

Ans. HFU recommends a baseline of €670 (₹72,943) per month for Furtwangen town and up to €934 (₹1,01,685) per month for Schwenningen. That works out to ₹8.75-12.20 Lakhs per year and covers rent, groceries, health insurance, and the Deutschlandticket public transport pass. Choosing a Studierendenwerk hall room over a private flat saves ₹4-5 Lakhs annually.

Ques. Do Indian students need to show a blocked account for Furtwangen University?

Ans. Yes. The German student visa mandates €11,904 (₹12.96 Lakhs) in a blocked account at Expatrio, Fintiba, or a German bank for the first year, released to the student at €992 (₹1.08 Lakhs) per month after arrival. This is a federal requirement, not an HFU one, and the money is your own, held in escrow, not a cost.

Ques. Does Furtwangen University offer scholarships for Indian students?

Ans. Yes. Enrolled Indian students can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium (€300 or ₹32,661 per month) on merit. The full-time MBA IBM programme offers a merit scholarship of €2,000 (₹2.18 Lakhs) to the top two performers in Semester 1. Externally, DAAD EPOS (deadline 31 October 2026 for Winter 2027/28), Inlaks, JN Tata, and KC Mahindra all fund Indian students at HFU.

Ques. What are the intake dates and deadlines at Furtwangen University for Indian applicants?

Ans. For Indian applicants planning today, the two workable intakes are Summer Semester 2027 (April 2027 start, non-EU deadline 15 November 2026) and Winter Semester 2027/28 (October 2027 start, non-EU deadline 15 May 2027). The full-time International Business Management MBA runs Winter-only with a non-EU deadline of 31 March, so its next intake is Winter 2027/28. The APS certificate (4-8 weeks) plus the German student visa (6-12 weeks) require 10-20 weeks before departure.

Ques. How much is the full-time International Business Management MBA at Furtwangen University?

Ans. The full-time MBA IBM costs €4,000 (₹4.35 Lakhs) tuition per semester plus the €176 (₹19,161) semester contribution across three semesters, totalling €12,528 (₹13.64 Lakhs). It is a 15-seat, Schwenningen-campus programme taught fully in English and runs Winter-only. Top two performers in Semester 1 receive a €2,000 (₹2.18 Lakhs) scholarship that halves the Semester 2 tuition.

Ques. Can I work part-time to cover fees at Furtwangen University?

Ans. Yes. Indian students on the German student visa can work up to 140 full-days or 280 half-days per year, roughly 20 hours per week during semester. At Baden-Württemberg’s minimum wage of €13.90 (₹1,513) per hour, a 20-hour week earns about €1,112 (₹1.21 Lakhs) monthly, which covers living costs. HiWi (student assistant) roles at HFU do not count toward the 140-day cap.

Ques. What is the total cost of studying at Furtwangen University for two years?

Ans. A two-year MSc at HFU totals roughly ₹24 to ₹30 Lakhs, comprising ₹7.30 Lakhs in tuition and ₹17.50 to ₹22.40 Lakhs in living costs, plus about ₹40,000 in one-time setup fees. The full-time MBA IBM (18 months) totals around ₹31 to ₹33 Lakhs. Both are before scholarships and are well below the UK or Australia comparable range.

Ques. Is there an education loan option for Furtwangen University?

Ans. Yes. SBI Global Ed-Vantage, Axis, HDFC Credila, ICICI, and Avanse all fund HFU admissions. A ₹25 Lakh loan at 10.5% over 10 years works out to an EMI of ₹33,500 per month, and interest is fully deductible under Section 80E for up to 8 consecutive assessment years with no cap. HFU is on the approved-university list of all major Indian lenders.

Ques. Does Furtwangen University fee include health insurance?

Ans. No. HFU tuition and the semester contribution do not include health insurance. Statutory GKV (Techniker Krankenkasse, AOK, or DAK) costs approximately €110 (₹11,976) per month, mandatory for all students under 30. Enrolment at HFU is blocked until you provide proof of health insurance coverage.

  • The residence is not guaranteed by the college. Students use various websites and apps like WG gesucht to find a place to stay.
  • Knowing German, again, is an advantage. The behaviour of the students based on their nationality plays a role in finding a place to rent and some places of stay are not for internationals.
  • The place of stay should be secured atleast a month before moving in.
