University of Twente Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum funding an Indian master’s applicant can stack at University of Twente?

Ans. An Indian master’s applicant can stack UTS (up to EUR 25,000), Holland Scholarship (EUR 5,000), and OTS India (up to EUR 15,000). The realistic first-year ceiling sits between EUR 30,000 and EUR 45,000, roughly INR 28.65 Lakhs to INR 42.98 Lakhs. This combination can cover full first-year tuition plus meaningful living support.

Ques. When should I apply for the University of Twente Scholarship for September 2026 intake?

Ans. The UTS main-round deadline is February 1, 2026 for the September 2026 intake. Indian applicants should hold a conditional UT admission decision at least 10 days before this date. Award decisions arrive within eight weeks, typically by early April 2026.

Ques. Do I need to submit a separate application for UT scholarships?

Ans. Yes, UTS and ITC Excellence require a separate scholarship form after conditional admission. Holland Scholarship uses a tick-box option inside Studielink at the admission stage. OTS India needs a distinct Nuffic Neso portal submission with your UT offer letter attached.

Ques. What GPA do Indian applicants typically need to win the University of Twente Scholarship?

Ans. Indian recipients typically hold a bachelor’s CGPA of 8.5 out of 10 or higher, or a first-class-with-distinction result. GRE is not required, but a strong statement of purpose and one relevant research or industry project sharply improve odds. Programs in Computer Science and Robotics run the highest cutoffs.

Ques. Does the UTS or Holland Scholarship cover rent in Enschede?

Ans. Neither award pays a monthly stipend; both apply as tuition reductions only. Indian students cover Enschede rent of EUR 450 to EUR 700 monthly (INR 42,975 to INR 66,850). Personal funds, StuNed or a part-time job typically fill this gap.

Ques. Is a University of Twente PhD position better funded than a scholarship-based PhD elsewhere?

Ans. Yes for most Indian PhD candidates. UT PhD candidates are salaried employees earning EUR 2,901 to EUR 3,707 monthly, plus 8% holiday allowance, pension and Dutch social security. This exceeds most scholarship-only PhD packages in the UK, Germany or Sweden by 25 to 40% in net take-home terms.

Scholarship

  • No scholarship received
  • Scholarship are applicable based on the country you are from
  • Typical scholarship consists of 5000 Euros yearly
  • Can get full scholarship but depends on previous academic performance and also depends on the person's country of origin.
  • General requirements- GPA of more than 9 out of 10, and good motivation letter
  • On average only 15-20 Students receive and they can get further scholarship when they maintain a high GPA after getting admitted in the following years

  • For the first year the University guarantees accommodation on Campus, they have a separate website for it. After one year you are supposed to find your own accommodation elsewhere, which can be through online platforms, real estate agents.
  • Current rent is (500, 400 rent and 100 for utilities (GWE and Internet))
  • Challenges: You have to decide whether you want a private room for yourself or you want to stay with a group of friends. Staying alone will rise up your living costs significantly (Just the rent might be alone a 1000 Euros excluding utilities such as Gas(G) water(W) and Electricity(E) and Internet)
  • It takes about 6 months to one year to find a proper accommodation. so start searching for accommodation as soon as you are in your first house
  • I live about 5  km away from the University Campus, most of the Indian Students live in the near by cities which are just 5 km away from the Campus

No. You can apply though. There are some deadlines in terms of time. I missed those deadlines.

Moving to the Netherlands to pursue my masters, especially at the UT was probably the best decision of my life. It gave me a strong academic and domain focus, while nurturing my research abilities. Europe is the place to be in if you seek good work-life-balance.

It’s wonderful experience to stay with your friends and learn new things expanding your vision through experiences from extra curricular activities and academic activities. The bonds of friendships is one of the best things we experience through international studies. Learning more than what is known and looking at things in a different perspective is most advantageous characteristic one learns. I feel like I have grown into another person in a better sense.
