Massey University admits more than 5,000 international students every year from up to 100 countries into its student populace of more than 30,000. Renowned for its outstanding distance learning and online education, Massey University offers up education to over 11,000 students off-campus and online in 100 degrees, 500 online courses, and several certificate programs through more than 30 institutes, schools, departments, and centers in five colleges. Amongst the degrees offered are certificate, diploma, bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees in various popular fields like MBA, aviation, arts, and engineering. International students willing to study in New Zealand should also note that:

  • All academics including examinations are offered online for now due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Due to the impact of COVID-19, the University has a wider array of courses available online this semester.
  • Campus activities are slowly resuming beginning from May 18. These activities do not involve academic activities.
  • The Covid-19 pandemic notwithstanding, the application dates are unaltered. However, enrolment and class starting dates are constantly changed. However, the university advises international students to enroll in the university's already established online programs.
  • At Massey, international students are offered various scholarships and these scholarships have their unique application web pages and application forms.
  • The deadline for the Massey University Creative Arts International Excellence Scholarships is December 1 for the February application and May 1 for the July application.
  • An admission interview is not required
  • Work experience is needed for admission into MBA and Masters in Engineering
  • 5,000 international students are admitted into Massey every year. More than 11,000 studies off-campus and online out of more than 30,000 students
  • At Massey, the payment due dates for new international students are identified in their Offer of Place letter.
  • The application deadline for new international students at Massey is October 31 for semester one, June 20 for semester two, and October 30 for summer school.
  • After graduating, students are allowed to work in New Zealand for the next 12 months starting from the date of completion of their program. They can apply for a post-study work visa (open) for the same.

Massey University International Students Admissions

Massey University admissions for international students is relatively simple if applicants have met the standard entry requirements such as English proficiency tests, documents, passports, transcripts, credentials evaluations if required, and as well meet the deadlines for international students.

Massey University doesn't require SAT, ACT, GMAT, or GRE. The Covid-19 pandemic has only affected its class starting dates and not the application dates as all applications are done online. The application portal, fees, and requirements are almost the same as domestic students; however, international applicants will have to meet additional criteria.

Application fee: The University doesn't charge for an application fee. However, there are a few changes to some programs.

  • Bachelor of Aviation: 188.70 New Zealand dollars
  • Veterinary Science Selection: 111.30 New Zealand dollars

English Proficiency Test Score for International Students

It is pertinent to know that, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Massey University is accepting online testing sites as alternative methods for students to obtain the necessary English requirements for Semester two. These online sites are TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition, IELTS Indicator, and Duolingo (only for Chinese applicants). Moreover, test scores for TOEFL/IELTS at Massey are only valid for two years from the test date.

Visa information after admission

  • After getting the Offer of Place, applicants are to make payments which will enable them to get the International Receipt of Payment. Some types of applicants might need an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) instead of/with a Visa.
  • Visa can be applied through the Massey University website or Immigration New Zealand. Massey University only processes student visas. Applicants with any other type of visa may apply through Immigration New Zealand.
  • Application for a New Zealand student visa needs a valid passport, acceptable visa photos, English language tests, health documents, police certificate(variable), family background information, applications forms, evidence of funds(If applicants are from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh or Bhutan), and translation of any document that is not in English.
  • If the application for Visa was done through Massey University, when the Visa is approved, an eVisa will be sent to the student’s email address -Massey Student Portal email address.
  • If the application was done directly through New Zealand's Immigration, when the student gets to New Zealand, such a student is to bring a copy of the new visa to Campus Information Service so the university can update he records to show that such student is legal to be enrolled to study.

Undergraduate Applicants

Massey University admissions are offered for undergraduate programs such as Accountancy, Business, Aviation, Nursing, Sports Management, Engineering (Chemical, Bioprocess, Mechatronics, Computer, etc), and Food Technology. All applications are done online.

Admission at Massey is relatively easy if applicants apply early and submit the required documents. At Massey, applicants can receive an acknowledgment from the school within one week of submitting their application through email. Thereafter, documents will be requested of them and accessed, and if they meet the standards, applicants will be offered an admission Offer of Place.
