9 Lakh Students Attended Online Classes in the Lockdown

Delhi Education Minister, Manish Sisodia said on May 31, 2020, around 9 lakh students between KG and class 12th from Delhi government schools have benefited from the online and SMS/IVR supported learning during the lockdown, 

Manish Sisodia along with this team has reviewed the online and SMS/IVR supported learning for Delhi Government school students. As per reports, 5 different interventions for children between KG to class 12th were running during the lockdown situation.

To make sure that the students' study is not impacted due to pandemic, the Delhi government introduced digital learning for students of different grades.

The minister also said, "I’m glad to see we could minimise academic damage in the pandemic situation. This is perhaps the first time in India that a new academic session started during the lockdown.” 

Adding to this he said that the technology was not used at this scale before. At first it was challenging to conduct online classes with the help of digital technologies.

The review meeting was streamed online and along with Manish Sisodia, Director of Education Binay Bhushan, Education Advisor Shailendra Sharma and Additional Director of school Saroj Sain also joined this meeting.

Apart from these programs, 15 sessions of "Online Happiness Class for Family" were also organised during this lockdown, which was viewed on an average by 40,000 people everyday.

As said by Binay Bhushan, the department is planning to track the students on a weekly basis from now onwards till the schools reopen.

The maximum attendance recorded for English classes was 60,500. Whereas for everyday English and personality development classes for class 10 and 12, the maximum attendance recorded was 83,545.

The live online classes for class 11 was launched in partnership with Creer Launcher on April 6, 2020. About 85% of the students registered for this class.

Talking about Everyday English and Personality Development classes, Shailendra Sharma said, "These classes were launched in partnership with British Council and MacMillian Education on May 4, 2020 by the government for the students waiting to complete their board exams so that they could acquire new skills. The cycle of 30 sessions will conclude on June 2, 2020."

On the other hand Maths classes were introduced in collaboration with Khan Academy. Around 1.75 lakh students accessed the Maths sessions assisted by 1, 015 teachers oriented by Khan Academy. Classes were launched on April 27 and concluded on May 29, 2020.

Till date two live interactions with accomplished entrepreneurs have been organised and two more interactions are scheduled for June 3 and June 10, 2020. Almost 45,000 students participated in 10 activities on 5 themes conducted in Digital Entrepreneurship Mindset classes.

The Happiness classes conducted for the parents of the students between KG and Class 8 has recorded 5.7 lakh students participation.
