Now that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has made final-year exams compulsory, Andhra Pradesh universities are busy talking about plans to hold exams.
As a result, universities are setting out timetables for holding the exams within the timeframe. Nearly three lakh students are expected to attend this year's final-year exams. Even distance learning wings of some state varsities have issued exam notifications.
However, there is still a lot of confusion over the planning of the exams as Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Andhra Pradesh.
Prof. K Venkata Rao, Dean (Academic Affairs), Andhra University (AU) said that AU will follow the UGC guidelines and make the necessary preparations.
In a recent statement, the UGC stated that 194 of the 755 universities had already carried out the examinations, while 366 institutions were planning to hold the examinations in August and September.
According to UGC guidelines, if the student is unable to attend the final examinations, the university will have to carry out special examinations where possible.
The UGC, however, has allowed universities to take a call whether they wish to take the intermediate semester or the year-end exams. Depending on the situation of Covid-19, universities are allowed to plan these exams.
In the case of such exams, if things don't go back to normal, students can be graded on a composite of 50 per cent internal marks and 50 per cent mark from the previous semester.
Internal marks may be based on the continuous evaluation, prelims, or mid-semester examinations, or on whatever name they are assigned.
