Assam Board Certificate Distribution To Be Delayed Due To COVID-19 Spread

Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) is in a quandary over sending it's officials to the respective districts with the mark sheets and certificates.

AHSEC Secretary Manoranjan Kakati said in this regard, "100% mark sheets and certificates are ready, but we have not dispatched these in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases. If the situation improvises, we will go for the distribution of the mark sheets and certificates after four-five days."

Despite taking a decision to make original copies of the certificates and mark sheets available to the students within a week from the declaration of the results, AHSEC may revise its plan due to the increasing coronavirus spread.

Kakati added, "We don't perceive the mark sheets and certificates as the carrier of the coronavirus. But since the distribution of these may bring students, teachers, and other officials in close contact. This distribution can create a problem at this time. So finally, we have decided to wait for a few more days."

Some students and guardians feel that a lack of original mark sheets and certificates may create hurdles during the ensuing admission season. However, some sources suggest that the colleges in Assam are going to enroll the students based on digital mark sheets.

A few private colleges in Assam have already started the admission process. The college principals are of the view that the state's education department should come out with uniform guidelines for all the higher educational institutions without any delay.

An Education Department official said, "Many colleges are getting ready with their online admission portals. The colleges are likely to start receiving online applications within a week. However, they haven't fixed the last date for receiving online applications due to the problems the students have been facing."

"There is no clear directive to the colleges to start the admission process yet. The government is contemplating upon finalizing the admission process in the colleges", said Saikia, Commissioner, and secretary of the Education Department.
