Assam Government issues SOPs as Classes 9-12 Plan to Resume School by September 21

Schools and colleges in Assam will reopen from September 21, following the Unlock 4.0 guidelines issued by the Union Government. As a fact, the authorities issued detailed SOPs on 17 September 2020, that abodes by all necessary Covid-19 instructions.

After six months of colleges being shut because of the pandemic, the state secondary schooling division has declared that the SOPs for reopening of academic establishments in Assam from courses IX to XII. 

Educational institutes have been shut from March 15. However, virtual classes are still going on, many students are not ready to go to schools, due to varied constraints.

An order issued by the principal secretary to the state secondary schooling division B Kalyan Chakravarthy said that the SOP will begin from September 21 and shall be working for the following 15 days. Subsequently, the SOP might bring changes after observing the state of affairs for 15 days from September 21, he stated in the order.

According to the overall pointers in the SOP, students from class 9 to 12 might be ready to attend the colleges and schools, whereas all other courses will stay suspended. It said that for the students of courses 9 and 12, classes will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. However, for the X and XI requirements, courses might be carried out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

In addition, there will be two batches for students less than 20 in each batch. The timing of the first batch will be from 9 am to 12 noon, the next batch will begin from 1 pm to 4 pm. The students will only be attending schools if their parents allow doing so. “At all times, the teachers and students shall maintain a physical distancing of 6 feet apart, wherever feasible,” the SOP stated.

The SOP also stated “Teachers with extreme comorbid situations such as continual kidney illness, kind-two diabetics with an extreme situation, coronary heart surgical procedure, and affected by most cancers might be exempted by the pinnacle of the establishments from attending colleges.

The head of the institutions is also requested to prioritize the well-being of authority by normal random checking, random testing of the lecturers, and students on a weekly foundation, overlaying most of 10% of the lecturers and students on the given date.

All colleges (with courses IX to XII) have been requested in the SOP to specifically make sure the continuation of online and distance learning, regardless of the reopening of the academic establishments.
