Chandigarh Administration on Wednesday said that there will be no increase in school fees for the year 2020-21 without specific approval from the administration.

The administration had asked all schools to charge only tuition fees on a monthly basis from parents. Moreover, schools are asked to not include any “hidden or additional charges.

The new order had come after the education department received various complaints by parents that schools were collecting extra charges besides tuition fees.

Many schools in UT Chandigarh have already hiked the fees while some were to charge hiked fees from June onwards.

The recent order read as "There will be no increase in school fee for the year 2020-21 without specific approval from the administration. The tuition fee will be charged at the same rates, as was charged in the year 2019-20. No hidden/additional charges will be included. All private schools shall display the details of fee structure(specifically tuition fee), as per the provisions of section 5(c) of the Fee Regulation Act 2016 on their website and will also intimate the same to the administration on or before June 15, 2020."

The orders have come by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, as Chairperson of State Disaster Management Authority, in the exercise of powers conferred under Section 39 (i) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
