CSAB has deferred the CSAB Special 2026 and DASA 2026 registration due to unavoidable reasons. The window was to open on July 28. Candidates must now watch csab.nic.in for the revised schedule and fresh notice.

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has deferred the CSAB Special 2026 registration. The board shared the notice on its official portal at csab.nic.in. Registration for Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) 2026 stands postponed too. CSAB has cited unavoidable reasons for the delay in both processes.
The registration window was to open at 10 AM on July 28. Candidates targeting vacant NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats must now wait. The revised schedule will appear on the same CSAB portal soon.
What Does the Official Notice Say?
The notice states that CSAB Special and DASA registration has been deferred. It asks candidates to wait for the next update on csab.nic.in. No fresh dates have been shared by the board yet.
The board has not given a reason beyond the phrase used in the notice. Candidates are advised to avoid rumours from unofficial sources. Only the CSAB portal will carry the correct revised calendar.

Who Runs the CSAB Special Round?
CSAB fills seats that remain vacant after JoSAA counselling concludes. It handles admissions across NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, SPAs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).
This Special Round is the final chance for JEE Main 2026 qualifiers. It targets students who missed a seat in the regular JoSAA rounds. It also allows fresh JEE Main aspirants to enter counselling for the first time.
CSAB Special 2026 Eligibility Rules
Only candidates with a valid JEE Main 2026 score can apply. The candidate must not hold any JoSAA 2026 allotted seat during this round.
Category rank and Top 20 percentile rules from JEE Main will apply. Applicants must also meet the class 12 subject and pass requirements. Reserved category candidates need valid certificates as per government norms.
Fees and Payment Details
Candidates must pay the Special Round Enrolment Fee (SREF) during registration. The exact fee slabs for general and reserved categories are listed in the brochure.
The board accepts payment through net banking, debit card, credit card and UPI. The fee must be paid before the deadline set in the revised notice.
Which Institutes Take Part in the Special Round?
The Special Round covers vacant seats at NITs, IIITs and IIEST Shibpur. It also fills seats at SPAs and other GFTIs across India. The full institute and branch list appears in the CSAB information brochure.
Both home state and other state seat matrices are shared by the board. Candidates should study seat availability before filling their choices.
What About DASA 2026 Registration?
DASA 2026 handles admissions to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes. It is meant for non-resident Indians and foreign national students. DASA registration stands deferred along with the CSAB Special round.
How to Register on the CSAB Portal Once It Opens?
The steps will follow the process listed in the CSAB information brochure. Candidates should keep their JEE Main 2026 credentials ready in advance.
- Visit the official CSAB website at csab.nic.in.
- Click the CSAB Special 2026 registration link on the home page.
- Log in using the JEE Main 2026 application number and password.
- Fill personal, academic and category details as asked.
- Pay the Special Round Enrolment Fee through the online mode.
- Fill and lock the choices of institutes and branches.
What Documents Should You Keep Ready?
Applicants should keep a valid photo ID and the JEE Main scorecard ready. Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets are also needed for verification.
Category, PwD and defence certificates are required where they apply. All documents should match the details filled in the JEE Main 2026 form.
CSAB Special is the last route into the NIT+ system this year. A late start leaves less time to plan choices and pay fees.
