Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Admission to be Revised in Maharashtra

Maharashtra is to revise the eligibility criteria for admission to engineering courses. According to the reports, the state government has decided to revise the eligibility criteria and other rules for admission to engineering and other technical-vocational courses in order to give students of the state a greater opportunity to study in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Uday Samant, who also holds the Technical Education portfolio, said the decision was "in the interests of the students of Maharashtra."

Mr Samant said, "The eligibility of admissions and the rules for admission to engineering and technical vocational training in the state will soon be revised in the interests of the students of Maharashtra.
He added, "This will provide an opportunity for more and more students to take up education in the state itself."

In view of the ongoing pandemic situation of COVID-19, the Maharashtra Government emerged as the first to take a tough decision against the conduct of the final examinations of professional and non-professional courses.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to appoint regulatory bodies such as the All India Technical Education Council (AICTE) and the National Teachers' Education Council (NCTE) to endorse the government's decision.

Maharashtra is also the first state to refuse to allow national boards such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to carry out board examinations for Class 10 ad 12.
