School heads and teachers in Goa have requested the state government to allow students of classes 8 to 10 to attend the schools in batches for the new academic year.
There were issues in conducting live online classes, network problems and also unavailability of laptops with rural students. Keeping all these things in view, teachers requested to start offline classes for these students of higher classes.
Director of Education, Vandana Rao called a meeting on June 4, 2020. All the representative teachers and school heads were called for the discussion about how to start the new academic year following COVID-19 outbreak.
Vandana Rao also asked the school heads to take the consultation of parents on conducting classes online and how to proceed ahead with the new academic session.
School heads have to submit their reports to the directorate by June 10, 2020.
The director also asked the headmasters to explore the possibility of visiting the students home for teaching. However schools are of the view that it may be difficult to reach out to all the students especially in urban areas where enrolment numbers are high.
"There are many issues with teaching online. It is difficult to keep students focussed in this way. So most of the teaching will be asynchronous, which means that pre-recorded videos will be put on the school Youtube channel or app. Students will be sent assignments online." said one of the school's head.
