Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on June 27, 2020, that the state government is not in a hurry to open the educational institutions and a decision in this matter will be taken after June 30, 2020, when the guidelines from the HRD ministry is also expected.
The Chief Minister further said that the department has been ensuring maximum use of information technology for teaching the students following the COVID-19 situation.
Earlier in a review meeting, Thakur said, " The state government is committed to providing quality education to the students, with special focus on strengthening the educational infrastructure, so that students could get education par excellence and also excel at state and national competitions.
Thakur further said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cluster University, Mandi has been set up as per Rusa guidelines only. The government of India has also approved INR 55 Crore for this University, out of which INR 27.50 Crore has been released to this university. Kumar also directed the officers to expedite work to facilitate students.
The HP government has also constituted HP State Higher Education Council under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) to look into the overall development and growth of the higher educational institutions.
Since 2018, 92 crores has been approved under Rusa by the HRD Ministry as infrastructure grants to various colleges and universities in Himachal Pradesh, said Thakur.
Despite this, there are 929 high schools and 1,871 senior secondary schools in the government sector and 138 government colleges in the state.
