The Madras High Court on July 31, 2020 has warned all the private educational institutions not to charge full annual fees payment, if done so contempt of court proceedings will be initiated against them.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh said, "The court is taking very serious note of the violation. Based on the oral complaint, the education department shall conduct an immediate inquiry, if any institute found collecting fees in violation of interim orders passed by the court, immediate action shall be taken against them."
In the court proceeding, additional government pleader V Annalakshmi mentioned that the state is receiving several complaints against schools and colleges insisting to pay full fees. He also stated that parents are hesitant to write a complaint, fearing consequences.
Following which, Justice Venkatesh issued the warning and directed the authorities to conduct an inquiry and file an Action Taken Report by August 17, 2020.
Besides this, the fee fixed for some of the institutions had expired and fee fixation committed are yet to frame a new fee structure, it concurs to fix 75% of the fee collected in 2019 as the annual fee for this year.
As per court orders, the remaining 35% fee is to be collected within 2 months of reopening of educational institutes and commencement of physical classes.
