Maharashtra Govt to Universities: Produce Final-Year Exam Plan by 7 September

On 4 September, the government of Maharashtra asked universities in the state to submit their plan of holding the final-year examinations by 7 September, to allow the government to hold a meeting with the disaster management committee to take steps to contain the spread of the virus during the examination. Though the universities can develop their own schedule to conduct examinations, they must announce the results by 31 October.

Earlier, the government had sought to have the final-year examinations cancelled. However, the Supreme Court upheld the guidelines issued by the UGC which state that the final-year examinations must be held by 30 September.

Students who are going abroad for higher studies will get provisional certificates from their colleges. “Several colleges abroad have shown willingness to accept such provisional certificate as a document for confirming the admission,” said the State Minister for Higher and Technical Education. Such students can submit their final-year results later.

Many students have already been issued provisional certificates and their respective institutes have held them valid for admission.

Most of the examinations will be Open-Book Examinations (OBEs) or will be taken from the home. The concerned universities will decide according to their local situation. The practical examination or viva-voce should start from 15 September and be wrapped up by 30 September.

The schedule of the backlog papers will be part of the final examination schedule. The results for these papers will be out along with the final results.
