MHA says Schools to reopen for Classes 9-12; check here for state-wise reports

The Ministry of Home Affairs recently issued guidelines announcing that schools will open for classes 9-12 and students will have an option to attend their schools for guidance from teachers September 21 onwards, in areas outside containment zones voluntarily.

The statement issued also adds that from September 21, in areas outside the containment zones, the states/UTs may permit up to 50% of teaching and non-teaching staff to visit the schools at a time for online-teaching and other related work.

Clear guidelines on various precautionary measures by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare must be followed before opening the school, planning, and scheduling of activities, after opening the schools, transportation to and from the institution, hygiene, and sanitation, etc.

The partial reopening of schools is opted by many states for students of 9th to 12th classes on a voluntary basis.

Assam

On Wednesday the government of Assam had issued SoPs in order to resume classes in schools and colleges from September 21, in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. This notification has been released 6 months after the schools across the state had been closed due to the emergence of COVID-19 cases in India.

Andhra Pradesh

The classes 9 to 12 are likely to reopen from September 21, 2020, in Andhra Pradesh.

Schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions for remaining students will remain shut for regular class activity up to September 30, 2020.

Bihar

All provisions are taken, keeping the students' health as a priority in the city. Under Unlock 4.0, the Centre government has allowed partial resumption of school activities for students of classes 9 to 12 from September 21, 2020.

Goa

After addressing concern over ferrying students via Bal Raths and parent's apprehensions about schools reopening during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on Thursday, the Goa government decided that Classes IX-XII could begin from September 21, 2020.

Gujarat

The schools will not resume from September 21, 2020, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, said The Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama on Wednesday. The decision was taken "in the interest of students" during a cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar.

Haryana

In Haryana, students of classes 9 to 12 can attend schools from September 21, 2020, voluntarily for academic guidance.

Jharkhand

The Jharkhand Government puts the decision on hold. The state government will decide by month-end after reviewing the proposal laid by the Education department for reopening from September 21.

Kerala

The Kerala government is unlikely to reopen schools until the end of October, stated by the senior official.

Meghalaya

The Meghalaya Education minister Lahkmen Rymbui decided that the schools will partially reopen from next week for students to meet teachers to clarify their doubts. No regular classes and no classroom session will be there.

Odisha

Schools in Odisha will remain closed until Durga Puja, October 26.

Tamil Nadu

The schools will reopen after the COVID-19 outbreak is under-control, said K A Sengottaiyan, Education Minister of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

Uttarakhand

The Director of Secondary Education on Tuesday decided schools would remain close due to increasing cases in the state.

Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, the chance of schools resuming from September 21 is very bleak, said Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
