The cancellation of the remaining papers of the CBSE Class 12 examination, along with the decision of the MHRD to request the University Grants Commission to revise its academic calendar could affect the JEE Main and the NEET, both of which are due to be held in July.
The NEET, which candidates take for admission to MBBS and BDS courses, and the JEE Main, which is a test given for admission to engineering colleges, are scheduled to be given between 18 and 23 July. The tests are held by the National Testing Agency. JEE Main has been postponed twice due to COVID-19 crisis and the nationwide lockdown. But as scores of complaints are filed asking for postponement, the MHRD has decided on releasing the fresh schedule for April session of JEE Main pretty soon.
An official in the MHRD said that a decision could be taken to either hold the test or postpone it in a few days’ time.
The marks obtained in the CBSE class 12 examination are used to determine admission to a number of college courses.
The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal cancelled the Central Teachers Eligibility Test on Thursday due to the pandemic, which has effectively disrupted the academic session of the year.
The RC Kuhad Panel, which has been set up to look into the issues related to examinations has recommended that the examinations be cancelled and that candidates be allotted marks on the basis of a suitable ‘averaging’ formula.
