Mumbai University Final Year Exam 2020: Final Year Students to be awarded with grace marks

According to the recent notification by Mumbai University, all the university-affiliated colleges are directed to give grace marks to the students appearing for the final semester examinations.

Mumbai University has also asked its affiliated colleges, which are grouped now, to award grace marks in this MCQ format of exams, if required, They can discuss about the procedure with the leading colleges in their allotted group.

The University took this decision after many college principals felt the need to give grace marks because the students are appearing for the exams in a new format for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Although regarding this decision, many college principals stated that for holding the examinations, the University could have released a wider set of guidelines.

While interviewing a teacher from Suburban college in the city revealed that the students are still afraid to give the exam with a completely new pattern.

She further said that the MCQ exam is an entirely diverse format because for each question one can either score full marks or zero. 

She also stated the students are not prepared to give the exam in this format, and many of the students are demanding a revision on the decision. As the classes are taken online, it is difficult for students to remember all concepts leading to an increase in the 10 percent failure. This was also seen in the first few backlog examinations conducted by the University, and not many students have secured above 40 out of 50 marks.
