National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced its first major regulation for annual MBBS Admission 2021 - 2022. As per the new regulation, 5 acres of the land is no longer required for setting up medical colleges and its affiliated teaching hospitals.
The Health Ministry stated, the newly constituted NMC has labelled its first major regulation as Minimum Requirements for Annual MBBS Admissions Regulations (2020), which is believed to be a remarkable step towards nominal medical education.

In accordance with notification released by National Medical Commission (NMC), requirements with respects to number of beds in various departments of medical college hospitals have been revised at par with annual seat intake and teaching time for clinical specialties.

NMC Regulations for MBBS Admissions 2021-2022: Highlights
On October 25, 2020, the newly constituted NMC has also proposed a detailed list of requirements for all the medical colleges for increasing the annual MBBS intake. The health ministry confirmed that the rules have been set for the academic session 2021-2022.

The notification released by National Medical Commission (NMC) replaces the 1999 Minimum Standard Requirements for Medical Colleges.
These new regulations have been formulated keeping the functional requirements of the institutions in mind such as additional beds, infrastructure, faculty, and human resources in any specialty.
MBBS Admissions 2021-2022: NMC Norms for Skilled Laboratory
The new norms established by NMC has made the availability of skilled laboratories mandatory in every medical college for the students to improve and practice new skills outlined in the curriculum of competency-based Undergraduate program.

As pre-specified in the curriculum, the purpose of the medical laboratories is as follows:
- The students will have non-threatening & safe environments to learn.
- Students can perform as well as observe performing skills in a simulated environment.
- Mitigating the risk which was involved in direct exposure to the patients without any proper supervision or preparation.
General Instructions: For North Eastern and hilly states, the medical campus can be settled in two plots of land. One for teaching hospital housing and the other one for students and interns.
However, the distance between the two housing plots should be less than 10 km and shall take 30 minutes of traveling time.
Explaining the NMC regulations or medical colleges, Health Ministry said “Provided that where the government district hospital is being considered for use as the teaching hospital of a medical college, all constituents of the district hospital, even if they are on two plots of land, will be considered as the affiliated teaching hospital, provided that the main district hospital has at least 300 beds or in Hilly and North-East states has 250 beds”
