New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC), which regulates undergraduate medical education, has decreased the passing marks for MBBS subjects with two exams to 40%. This adjustment was made in CBME 2023 (Competency-Based Medical Education Regulation 2023).
The National Medical Commission informed CBME of modifications in Passing Marks for MBBS Subjects on August 1, 2023. The revised CBME Guidelines cover new curricular standards, MBBS Admission Process 2023, academic calendar, and many more rules.

NMC has modified this guideline and stated, "In subjects that have two papers, the students must secure a minimum of 40% of marks in aggregate (both papers together) to pass in the said subjects. The new minimum passing percentage is now 40%."

Modifications have also been made to the requirements for passing a subject. The previous criteria indicated that in order to be declared as passing in that subject, students must receive a minimum of 50% marks in theory and practical portions of university-conducted tests.

In an amendment to the rules, NMC has made it clear that in order to be declared as passing in a subject, MBBS students must receive 50% points overall, 60:40 (minimum), or 40:60 (minimum), in university-conducted exams taken separately for theory and practical (practical includes; practical/clinical and viva voce).
