Offline MBA: Is It Worth Your Money?

Doing an MBA in India is costly, no doubt about it. The cost of doing an MBA in India in any reputed college is at least 10 Lakhs and can go as high as 40 Lakhs. So, naturally the question that comes to our mind is, “Is it even worth doing an Offline MBA?” when there is an alternative to do an MBA online which would take only around 5 Lakhs and get the same degree. So, why should someone do an offline MBA?

Reasons to do Offline MBA

Offline MBA is the traditional way to do it, and it has countless advantages over doing it online. Let's shed light on them one by one.

Experiential Learning

Doing an offline MBA is not just a monologue from the faculty member, but the educational program is designed to give experiential learning, which means involving students through real-world case studies, group discussions, and presentations. A Classroom setting allows in-depth discussion with peers and the faculty, and team projects and presentations foster leadership, teamwork, and communication.

Credibility and Recognition

As already mentioned, Offline MBA programs in India are often offered by reputable institutions with established credibility and recognition in the industry. Employers value an MBA degree earned from a well-known offline program, considering the institution's comprehensive curriculum, rigorous evaluation processes, and reputation. Making an online MBA or a distance MBA is as good as no MBA at all. 

Networking

Networking is a big deal for any MBA. Doing an offline MBA exponentially increases your connections with people who can be very helpful in your professional career, your batchmates, seniors, faculty members, visiting faculties, industry leaders, and more. The perk is missing in an online MBA.

Placement Assistance

The placement committee is chosen among the students who attend college offline and work laboriously to get their whole batch placed. In colleges offering online and offline MBAs, placing the online batch is not a priority and is not paid much attention to; however, for their offline batchmates, the colleges try to do whatever they can.

Campus Life

Doing any degree online makes you miss the much-aspired campus life completely. Although it is a Master's degree, most of the students have already enjoyed their hostel days in their undergrad. But then there was the Covid Batch, whose college experience was ruined. And also, some working professionals are looking for a break and want to relive their college days. For both categories, college life matters, especially in an MBA where events and activities are abundant.

Online MBA: Who is it meant for? 

The only compelling reason to do an Online MBA is if you already have a job and want to get a promotion, and the only thing stopping you is an MBA degree. An Online MBA is cheaper and allows you to continue doing your job and do MBA simultaneously. You are not even required to attend the classes; everything is flexible. Pass the test and get the degree. 

If you are a fresher or looking for a change in domain, e.g., a software engineer, and now you want to do marketing, an online MBA may prove to be as good as no MBA. The colleges giving MBA degrees may not provide any placement assistance; if they do, you would be given less preference than someone who has done it offline. 

The compromise does not stop there; there would be no peer group, no college and sports festivals, no group activities, and all in all, you will have no MBA life. On top of that, an online MBA nowhere gets the same degree as an Offline MBA. Rarely any top institute of management in India provides that option. 

Both Online and Offline MBAs come with their pros and cons, but doing an offline MBA is totally worth doing, especially if you are doing it from a top B-School. The reasons mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. Once you join an offline program of any top B-School, you will instinctively know that every moment here is worth every single penny.
