Punjab Government Streamlines The Process For School Building Safety

The Punjab Government has issued guidelines to streamline the process of declaring school buildings and rooms as unsafe.

If the school head finds any building or room unsafe, they may write to the district education officer and will also send a copy of the same to the Junior Engineer of the district.

Kirshna Kumar, Secretary of School Education, has issued a letter in this regard to the District Education Officers and also the headteachers of the state.

A government spokesperson said, " Earlier some school heads had approached the PWD (B&R) for declaring school buildings and rooms as unsafe. However, this approach hindered the compilation of data regarding the declaration of unsafe school buildings at one place."

A three-member committee will be constituted by the concerned District Education Officer, which will comprise the Deputy District Education Officer, Junior Engineer, and Technically experienced Officer/ Teacher. 

The so formed committee will visit the concerned school and inspect the building/room and will make its recommendations. 

These recommendations will be sent to the head office via email, and further action will be taken after the head office approval.
