Schools Reopening: Karnataka Education Department Seeks Experts Opinion

The Karnataka State Government announced that it would reach out to a panel of experts, which includes doctors and health experts, seeking their opinion to understand the feasibility of reopening schools from October 15, 2020.

All the schools and colleges in the country have kept closed since the mid of March 2020 because of the COVID 19 Outbreak. Earlier the Home Ministry permitted the states and Union Territories to reopen the schools within its jurisdiction.

Education Department Seeking Health Experts Opinion

The Education Department of Karnataka has sought the opinion of the health department on reopening the schools in the state and Union Territory from October 15, 2020.

The Health Minister of Karnataka, Sriramulu informed the reporters, "We have to take into account the report to be furnished by the panel of experts and doctors including pediatricians and psychiatrists before opening the schools and colleges"

Need to Instill Confidence in Students and Parents minds

He also mentioned that students have been pursuing studies through online classes for 6 months now, since the outbreak of COVID 19 in March 2020. He stated that there will be several challenges including fear in the minds of students and parents regarding the reopening of schools and colleges.

Hence the government has to work with the doctors and psychiatrists to bring confidence in the minds of students and parents.

Education Minister’s meeting with Experts

Education Minister Sriramulu held meetings with Chief Secretary of Health Department Jawaid Akhtar, Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, and other experts on the issue.
