Supreme Court Verdict on UGC Guidelines about Final-Year Exams Delayed

The verdict of the Supreme Court on the matter of the UGC guidelines has been delayed. The news about the petition which challenged the UGC guidelines that mandated the holding of terminal examinations for college and university students in their final year was not listed for the day.

This was confirmed by the advocate who is representing the students in the case. There is no clarity about when the final verdict will be delivered. Consequently, students are advised not to buy any rumours or fake news about the verdict being delivered on 26 or 27 August. 

Students and stakeholders are hoping for an early decision on the matter which will end the uncertainty surrounding it.

With all the vagueness surrounding the verdict of the Supreme Court on the matter of the examinations, universities across the country have started making preparations to give the examination in the near future. According to the UGC guideline, the final-year examinations must be given by 31 September. To abide by this, universities will have to begin the examination soon.

Recently, Kurukshetra University announced that it would be holding the final-year examinations for students in the form of an open-book examination starting from 10 September. Similarly, Gauhati University has released the timetable for the final-year examination along with Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines for the students.
