Telangana to Hold Exams for Final-Year Students, in Accordance with UGC Guidelines

On 16 July, the government of Telangana said that the examinations for the final-year college students will be given in accordance with the directives issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). 

The guidelines will be followed for undergraduate, postgraduate and engineering students who are in their final year. The other students will be promoted to the next year without taking an examination.

The decision was announced by the Chief Minister of Telangana after a meeting about educational issues. It was also decided that the academic year for engineering students would commence on 17 August. A combined entrance test schedule is being prepared so that students do not lose time.

The government will soon take a final stance on reopening schools, the mode of teaching and so on after examining the guidelines offered by the central government and the methods being used by the other states. Educational institutions in India have remained shut since the lockdown began in March.

The Chief Minister, who held the meeting with the Education Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and other officials, said that a long-term strategy would need to be put into use to fortify government educational institutions in the state by cleaning up the education system. 

To this end, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to convene a meeting with educationists and experts and gather their opinions. It was ultimately decided to follow the guidelines issued by the UGC and the AICTE and other such institutions.
