UGC-NET Exam 2020 Dates to clash with Durga Puja; Trinamool Congress opposes NTA's Decision

Trinamool Congress of West Bengal opposed the scheduled dates of UGC-NET examinations 2020 announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) arguing that the dates clash with Durga Puja, which is the most celebrated festival in the state

On Saturday, NTA released subject wise examination dates for the UGC NET examination. The Exams are scheduled between 24 September to 5 November 2020.

Abhishek Banerjee, the member of Lok Sabha and the national president of All Indian Trinamool Youth Congress of West Bengal expressed his discontent on the issues by stating that Mr. Narender Modi has blatantly shown his disrespect for the students and culture of Bengal.

Durga Puja Celebration dates Coinciding with UGC-NET exam dates

West Bengal started the celebrations of Vishwakarma Puja and Mahalaya on 17 September, while the celebrations for the famous Bengal festival -Durga Puja will start from October 22. Navaratri will also start from October 17 and 25.

The examination dates are contradicting the festival celebrations dates as the exam dates for UGC-NET scheduled by the authority are from September 24 to November 5. Addressing the oppositions, BJP's National Secretary Rahil Sinha said that the Trinamool Congress always uses politics everywhere. There is no need to raise political slogans.

He also stated that the authority is aware of NET dates coinciding with Durga Puja and is intended to take up the matter with the central Government as students are facing some hardship.

Earlier the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had shown her disagreement over the fact that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examinations delay in the examination due to COVID-19 Pandemic.

The authority declared that 75% of students were unable to appear for the JEE examination on the first day. The adversary is demanding to postpone the examinations. A Joint meeting was convened by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Banerjee between Non-BJp ministers to discuss the possible solutions for the issue.

So far no solution for the issue has been provided. Candidates are advised to check the official website for the latest updates.
