IITs, IIMs advised to become multi-disciplinary: Union Education Minister

New Delhi: The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the union government has advised IITs and IIMs to broaden their scope and adopt multi-disciplinary approaches. This was said during the inauguration ceremony of the Odisha Research Centre on November 26, 2023.

He said that “priority has been given to imparting multi-disciplinary education through the National Education Policy, 2020 and IITs and IIMs will also move in this direction.” Minister Pradhan also highlighted the potential applications of technology in various sectors and emphasized the center’s role in advancing Odisha’s progress and language during significant upcoming milestones.

Odisha governor Raghubar Das and Chhattisgarh governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, and Dharmendra Pradhan, jointly inauguratedthe inauguration event. The centre is aimed at conducting research in various domains including art, culture, archaeology, tradition and literature, sociology of Odisha, political process and political culture, agriculture, commerce, business and industry, development trends of contemporary Odisha, science and technology and healthcare, and future technology. 

Besides this, the centre will also focus on smart cities, climate change, protection of the environment, sustainable development, semiconductors, rare earths and advanced minerals, Pradhan said.
