passing marks for 1st year BA at Rajasthan University (University of Rajasthan), Jaipur:

Rajasthan University uses the traditional annual exam system for BA:

  • Minimum passing marks: 36 out of 100 (36%) for each paper to pass individually
  • For promotion to 2nd year: you need to pass all papers of 1st year, or be within the supplementary exam rules
  • Supplementary exams: students who fail in 1-2 papers may be allowed to appear in supplementary/back exams. clearing supplementary allows promotion

Rajasthan University BA is an annual examination system — you appear for all papers at once in March-April. check the university's ordinance on uniraj.ac.in or your affiliated college for exact passing rules for your batch and subject combination. rules may vary slightly between different BA programs (Arts, Science, Commerce).

Rajasthan University BA passing marks — this differs slightly based on your batch and whether you're in the annual or semester system.

For BA Year 1 (Annual System — most current students):

  • Theory paper: Minimum 36 out of 100 in each paper (36% per subject).
  • For programs with internal assessment (25 marks internal + 75 marks external): Minimum 36% overall (total ÷ total max marks × 100 ? 36%), AND minimum 27 marks (36% of 75) in the external exam.
  • Aggregate minimum: 40% overall to pass the year (can vary — check your program ordinance).

Division criteria at Rajasthan University:

  • Distinction: ? 75%
  • First Division: 60–74.99%
  • Second Division: 48–59.99%
  • Third Division: 36–47.99%
  • Fail: below 36% in any paper OR below 40% aggregate

For semester-based batches (some newer programs): Similar passing criteria but applied per semester (pass each semester independently).

What happens if you fail one paper: You appear as an "Ex-Student" (compartment candidate) in the supplementary exam. RU conducts supplementary exams typically in October-November for students who failed in the main exams. Two attempts per year (main + supplementary). Fee per paper: ?500-700 as ex-student.

Check your specific program rules on uniraj.ac.in — some professional programs (BBA, B.Ed) have different minimum passing criteria.

There are three main papers in BA at Rajasthan University. Each paper also has two papers. So, there are six papers in total. Previously, to pass a paper containing 100 marks, a student needed to score 36. However, recently UOR has changed its rule. In order to pass, you will need to score a minimum of 72 marks in a group, i.e. two papers containing 100 marks each. The marks division can be 10+62 or 20+52, etc.
