Sydney Scholars India Scholarship Program is an initiative to foster engagement between the University of Sydney and India for investment in collaboration projects, research and industry partners and to deepen the commitment to education for students.

Valued at 3,43,040 USD per year, Sydney Scholars India Scholarship program is one of the biggest scholarship programs offered to Indian students by any Australian University. The program is applicable for students enrolled in either undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Sydney.

Benefits of the Sydney scholars India Scholarship Program

Under the Sydney Scholars India Scholarship program, a total of 28 scholarships are awarded annually to the Indian students. Three scholarship awards are given based on a ranking against selection criteria within three different categories.

Eligibility Criteria

An applicant should fulfill the given eligibility criteria, for the Sydney scholars India Scholarships:

  • Nationality: hold Indian citizenship and be a current resident of India.
    • Proof of Residency has to be provided.
  • Must have applied for UG or PG coursework at the University of Sydney.
    • Commencement of coursework should be in the same year and semester as the scholarship application.

Note: Applicant commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney is eligible to apply. However, he/she must not have previously held The Sydney Scholars India Scholarship.

Ongoing Eligibility for Sydney India Scholarship Recipients

  • To renew the scholarship, each recipient has to maintain a minimum semester average mark (SAM) of 65 and have no outstanding fees.
  • Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

Application Process

Before applying for the Sydney Scholars India Scholarships, applicants must secure admission at the University of Sydney. Once this is done and the applicants have received their acceptance letter, they can apply for the scholarship program.

The University of Sydney has a separate online application for Sydney Scholars India Scholarship Program. Along with the form, applicants are asked to submit a few supporting documents.

The Sydney Scholars India Scholarship applications for 2020-21 will be available on the university website from April 1, 2020, till May 31, 2020.


Selection Process

The scholarship selection committee will assess each applicant’s undergraduate or graduate application form. As per the direction of the university’s Vice-Principal (External Relations), the committee will constitute two academic nominees and two non-academic nominees.

The Sydney India Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and personal statement. Students are notified regarding the committee’s decision before the commencement of their academic session at the University of Sydney.

Note:

  1. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient fails to enroll in the course or commence a part-time study without approval or becomes a domestic student or shows misconduct in the university.
  2. The scholarship is transferable for any other course at the same university, but not to another university.

Terms and Conditions

Applicants should conform to the rules in the Higher Education Support Act 2003, for being international students. Moreover, this is a one-time scholarship and will not be renewed.
