University of Sussex fees for Indian students depend on the fee route, course, and intake chosen.

All converted values use the Indian rupee (INR). Postgraduate (PG) tuition runs from £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) to £26,995 (INR 35.23 Lakhs) annually. Undergraduate (UG) tuition runs from £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) to £27,300 (INR 35.63 Lakhs) annually. The popular Data Science Master of Science (MSc) course costs £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs). It lasts one full-time year.

Sussex publishes Brighton living expenses separately from tuition. University accommodation costs £533.87 (INR 69,675) to £958.84 (INR 1.25 Lakhs) monthly for a single room. Private shared housing costs £780 (INR 1.02 Lakhs) to £1,335 (INR 1.74 Lakhs) monthly before bills.

For the Data Science MSc, a first-year budget comparison is INR 49.42 Lakhs to INR 63.22 Lakhs. The comparison includes tuition and twelve months of Sussex living costs. It adds a Student visa and one-year Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) comparison. The 2027/28 international fee is not published, so use the 2026/27 rate until Sussex updates the offer.

Exchange rate used for all conversions: 1 pound sterling (GBP) = INR 130.51, using the supplied 25 August 2026 rate.

January 2027 Intake: The workable PG route after September deadlines

Intake: January 2027 is workable for selected full-time PG courses. September 2026 is not viable for a new visa applicant in the United Kingdom (UK). International deadlines have passed. January is PG-only. UG applicants should target September 2027. Most selected Masters deadlines are 15 December 2026. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) deadline is 30 November 2026.

Fee update: The 2026/27 fee year applies to January 2027 PG starts. Featured PG tuition runs from £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) to £26,995 (INR 35.23 Lakhs).

When to pay: Sussex requires a £5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) taught Masters deposit after conditions are met. The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) follows payment and other requirements.

Scholarships: The Sussex India Scholarship closes on 1 September 2026. It offers £5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) for eligible full-time Masters starts in September 2026 or January 2027.

Next action: review the University of Sussex admission requirements before the January 2027 course deadline.

University of Sussex Tuition Fees by Programme

£23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) is the lowest featured Sussex tuition fee. It applies to a full-time, one-year PG course. The Sussex fee structure follows the named programme, not one universal PG band.

University of Sussex Postgraduate Fees: January 2027 and September 2027

Each featured PG course lasts one full-time year. Master of Science (MSc) and Master of Arts (MA) courses publish annual tuition. Master of Laws (LLM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses use the same fee basis.

  • January 2027 pages are listed for Data Science MSc, Business Analytics MSc, Project Management MSc, Strategic Marketing MSc, and MBA.
  • Advanced Computer Science MSc and Fintech, Risk and Investment Analysis MSc are shown for September 2026 only. Their international deadlines have passed.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Adaptive Systems MSc is historical for new visa applicants.
  • International Relations MA and International Human Rights Law LLM are also historical for new visa applicants.
  • Most January 2027 Masters applications close on 15 December 2026. The MBA closes on 30 November 2026.
  • September 2026 international deadlines have passed for featured September routes. A new visa applicant should use January 2027 where offered.
  • Sussex applies its £5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) taught Masters deposit after conditions and an unconditional offer.

Source: University of Sussex course pages and 2026/27 tuition pages.

Note: Sussex does not use one universal PG rate. The listed routes range from £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) to £26,995 (INR 35.23 Lakhs). The offer letter controls the payable fee.

University of Sussex Undergraduate Fees: September 2027

£23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) is the standard rate for three featured UG routes. Computer Science and Psychology cost £27,300 (INR 35.63 Lakhs) annually.

Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Arts (BA), and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) honours (Hons) courses publish annual fees. The table uses 2026/27 rates because September 2027 overseas fees are not yet published.

Law LLB (Hons)3 years full time£23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) per year£70,500 (INR 92.01 Lakhs)

Indicative full-course tuition multiplies the 2026/27 annual rate by three years at unchanged current rates. It is not a forecast.

  • Computer Science and Psychology sit in the £27,300 (INR 35.63 Lakhs) higher-fee group.
  • International Business, Economics, and Law use the £23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs) rate.
  • International Business BSc, Economics BSc, and Law LLB target September 2027.
  • Computer Science BSc and Psychology BSc target September 2027.
  • September 2026 Clearing is not a realistic new-visa route after the international deadline and visa-processing window.
  • September 2027 is the next UG entry. The exact overseas rate should be checked in the offer.

Source: University of Sussex undergraduate course pages and fee-status pages.

Note: Three-year UG totals are comparison figures. Sussex can increase international fees annually, so the billed total may exceed the unchanged-rate calculation.

Next action: compare the Sussex admission route with the deadline for the named programme.

University of Sussex Fee Trend by Year

INR 24.14 Lakhs was the standard non-lab UG international fee in 2021/22.

The Sussex schedule shows the standard non-lab UG rate for new international entrants. It is a useful timing signal, not a promise for September 2027.

2026/27£23,500 (INR 30.67 Lakhs)INR 30.67 Lakhs4.1%
  • The 12.9% increase in 2024/25 added INR 3.20 Lakhs to one standard UG year.
  • The 4.1% 2026/27 increase added INR 1.21 Lakhs before living expenses.
  • PG rates vary by course, so the UG trend cannot replace a PG offer-letter figure.
  • September 2027 applicants should rerun totals when Sussex publishes the next overseas fee year.

Source: University of Sussex fees schedule, 2019 to 2025 archive, and 2026/27 fee-status page.

Key Insight: January 2027 PG applicants can budget against the 2026/27 course rate. They should also note the 1 September 2026 scholarship deadline. September 2027 applicants need a fresh fee check before accepting an offer.

Cost of Living in Brighton for Indian Students

Brighton living expenses range from INR 1.42 Lakhs to INR 2.57 Lakhs monthly in Sussex’s on-campus budget.

On-campus living means a resident room managed by Sussex. Bills are mostly included in university accommodation rent. Off-campus housing means a private lease in Brighton, with bills and a five-week security deposit.

  • On-campus rent is the first comparison because Sussex includes most bills in its accommodation rate.
  • The published total includes clothing and other everyday lines beyond the rows shown.
  • Private leases add energy, water, sewage, and broadband bills to monthly rent.
  • Sussex’s guide uses a 52-week year, which suits a January PG course better than a ten-month UG budget.

Source: University of Sussex living and accommodation costs guide.

Note: The Sussex monthly total is a living benchmark, not a billed cost of attendance. Tuition, visa charges, deposits, and travel remain separate.

Brighton private housing changes the cash-flow pattern because rent, bills, and deposits arrive separately.

Private Housing Near Brighton for Indian Students

  • Brighthelm PG contracts run for 51 weeks, so the lease covers most of a January-to-January Masters.
  • A private lease can require a five-week deposit before arrival, even when monthly rent looks similar.
  • Transport should be budgeted separately when private housing is not near Falmer campus.
  • Accommodation availability depends on eligibility, application timing, and the university’s allocation process.

Currency Tip: January 2027 PG applicants should hold the deposit and first housing payment before the 15 December course deadline. September 2027 applicants should keep a separate INR buffer for the next fee-year rate.

Data Science MSc first-year costs range from INR 49.42 Lakhs to INR 63.22 Lakhs. Sussex publishes the lower and upper living bands used here.

  • The living figure uses Sussex’s lower, midpoint, and upper monthly totals multiplied by twelve.
  • The £5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) deposit is part of tuition, not an additional cost.
  • The table excludes airfare, private-leasing deposits, loan processing fees, and optional course costs.
  • The visa charge is shown separately from tuition. The IHS is paid upfront for the full visa duration.

Data Science full-programme tuition plus twelve-month average living costs equals INR 54.58 Lakhs. That is INR 0.55 Crore before visa and IHS.

The payment is an Equated Monthly Instalment (EMI). A INR 50 Lakh loan implies an EMI of INR 65,000 to INR 70,000 monthly. The term is ten years at 10.5%.

Key Insight: The Sussex India Scholarship can reduce eligible January 2027 PG tuition by INR 6.53 Lakhs. Lock that automatic award before the next instalment, and do not subtract an unpublished full-payment discount.

University of Sussex Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

£5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) is the standard deposit for a self-funded international student. It applies to taught Masters courses.

Sussex uses one standard taught Masters deposit rather than different deposits for the featured courses. The deposit is paid after academic and language conditions are met.

Methods of payment

  • Use a bank transfer through Convera, Sussex’s named international payment provider.
  • Use Touchnet for debit or credit card payments.
  • A forex card or university payment provider can avoid some raw-wire bank charges.
  • Around 2-3% may be saved against a raw wire, depending on the bank spread and provider quote.
  • Education-loan disbursement should be timed against the deposit and registration instalment.

Steps to pay the tuition fee for international students

  1. Accept the Sussex offer and finish academic and language conditions.
  2. Pay the £5,000 (INR 6.53 Lakhs) deposit through Convera or Touchnet.
  3. Receive the CAS after Sussex confirms payment and other requirements.
  4. Pay the remaining balance under the 50% registration and January schedule.
  5. Keep every payment receipt for the Student visa file and loan records.

Sussex does not publish a full-payment discount on the fetched payment page. Do not include one in the budget without a written offer term.

Sussex’s Masters tuition fee deposit policy explains refund exceptions and CAS timing.

Note: For January 2027, pay the deposit before CAS processing becomes urgent. Keep at least five business days for a bank-transfer buffer before the course deadline.

Hidden Costs of Studying at the University of Sussex

  • January 2027 applicants have two key deadlines. The MBA closes 30 November 2026. Most Masters close 15 December 2026.
  • The Student visa costs £558 (INR 72,825) from outside the UK.
  • The student IHS rate is £776 (INR 1.01 Lakhs) per year. A twelve-month course can create an 18-month charge.
  • An estimated 18-month IHS charge is £1,164 (INR 1.52 Lakhs). The visa application calculates the final amount.
  • Sussex lists one-off setup costs of £1,795 (INR 2.34 Lakhs). The figure includes transport, bedding, utensils, and a laptop allowance.
  • A private lease requires a five-week security deposit. The published Brighton rent range supports a calculated deposit range.
  • The calculated private deposit is £900 (INR 1.17 Lakhs) to £1,540 (INR 2.01 Lakhs). The lease controls the final amount.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) retake fees, bank charges, airfare, and loan processing fees are excluded.

Cash Needed Before Arrival for Data Science MSc: INR 9.95 Lakhs to INR 10.78 Lakhs. This combines the tuition deposit, Student visa, full IHS estimate, and a private five-week housing deposit. It excludes airfare, the later tuition balance, and optional purchases.

Budget approximately INR 9.95-10.78 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs.

Note: The IHS is the cost families most often underfund. Reserve £1,164 (INR 1.52 Lakhs) for an estimated 18-month charge when the Student visa is submitted.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students

INR 6.53 Lakhs is the largest confirmed tuition saving for eligible January 2027 PG applicants.

  • Submit the Sussex India Scholarship evidence before 1 September 2026. The award is assessed automatically after an eligible offer.
  • Compare university accommodation with private rent plus bills. Sussex publishes both ranges, which makes the cash-flow difference visible.
  • Degree-level Student visa holders can work up to 20 hours weekly during term time. Work income is not visa evidence.
  • Section 80E of the Income Tax Act may help with education-loan interest. Confirm current eligibility with a tax adviser.
  • Choose the lower-fee course band only when its curriculum matches the career goal. Course fit still controls value.
  • The Graduate Route is 18 months for bachelor or Masters applications made on or after 1 January 2027. Use 18 months in the payback plan.

For September 2027, repeat the fee-band and scholarship check after Sussex publishes the new overseas rate.

Tip for Indian Students: Claiming the Sussex India Scholarship saves INR 6.53 Lakhs. That equals more than four months of the university’s lowest published living budget.

Is the University of Sussex Worth the Cost for Indian Students

The University of Sussex requires INR 49.42 Lakhs to INR 63.22 Lakhs for a one-year PG budget. The figure is before scholarships.

Sussex reports a 92.9% graduate employment rate in its international student material. The figure is not a course-specific salary guarantee.

Sussex ranks joint 273rd globally in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2027. Development Studies ranks first globally in the QS subject rankings 2026.

A INR 50 Lakh loan carries an EMI of roughly INR 65,000 to INR 70,000 monthly. The term is ten years at 10.5%. Use the written salary offer for comparison. Sussex does not publish a course-specific median salary.

The Graduate Route lasts 18 months for eligible bachelor and Masters applications made on or after 1 January 2027. That shorter post-study period makes the net scholarship and first job outcome more important.

Key Insight: January 2027 is financially stronger when the INR 6.53 Lakhs Sussex India Scholarship is secured. Without it, a 1-year PG budget starts at INR 49.42 Lakhs before airfare and private housing deposits.

Next action: review Sussex rankings and subject strengths beside the chosen course outcome.

The January 2027 Sussex route is workable for selected PG courses, while UG applicants should target September 2027. A one-year PG budget is INR 49.42 Lakhs to INR 63.22 Lakhs before scholarships. The Sussex India Scholarship can remove INR 6.53 Lakhs for eligible applicants. Secure the scholarship decision before paying the next tuition instalment.

  • Research online via Google and the University of Sussex web FAQs. My rent was roughly £980 for uni accom. It would have been cheaper to rent outside, but I preferred being on campus for the year. I had an ensuite bathroom, Wi-Fi, and bills included in this rent

  • I found accommodation using my university website during my 1st year, when i lived on campus. for off campus houses, there are multiple websites, like eightfold, on the market, etc., and student accommodations have their own websites, which advertise an array of room options according to your convenience.
  • Monthly rent for university accommodation – 760 pounds, facilities included: ensuite room, fully equiped kitchen with ovens, kettles, microwaves, gas stoves, seating areas, fridges, porch area and furniture inside the room, including bed, wardrobe, mirror, study table and storage space
  • Some advice for anyone looking accommodation is please start searching for them early on, because all the good accommodations tend to be gone by the end of November or December; hence, try finding before that
  • My current accommodation is 20 minutes away from the university via a bus. Most of the indian students stay in student accommodations since they are quite convenient.

  • The process of finding Accommodation - I found my accommodation mainly through online platforms like UniHomes and Rightmove, which made the search easier. Challenges Included high demand and limited options close to campus. I recommend starting early, visiting properties if possible, and connecting with current students for reliable advice.

  • I found my accommodation via the uni portal. I stayed on campus. Since I was a late joinee, I did not get uni accommodation right away. There's a massive accommodation crisis in Brighton. It's very difficult to find a place within your budget near to the uni. My recommendation would be to stay on campus if you can afford it.
  • While outside might be slightly cheaper, the overall quality of your life reduces, which will affect your studies. At least half the Indian students would live on campus, as it's easier. While campus accommodation is not the cheapest, outside rents are not too cheap either. My rent was £800 per month on average, including bills. Next year might be up by another 15% because of the inflation.

  • There are multiple platforms to find the housing accommodations online. I had received one through a friend of mine but there are plenty of websites where you can see the post on the university webpage there is a separate page for accommodation where people keep posting the accomodation, then whatsapp group; you can connect with people from the same course in whatsapp ask them for accommodation.

The campus had this lively vibe, and I loved the mix of people from different backgrounds. The interdisciplinary approach to learning was refreshing—it made me see connections between subjects I never thought of before. The campus itself is gorgeous, surrounded by greenery. It's the kind of place where you can find a peaceful spot to study or just chill. The focus on research was impressive, and I got to explore topics that truly fascinated me. Of course, like any journey, there were challenges, but the overall experience was definitely worth it. Sussex has this unique blend of academic excellence and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it memorable.

Because I liked that it was in Brighton and the course was extremely interesting to me. I get to learn contemporary issues that relate to my interests as well as gain skills that employers are keen for students to have. I also heard really good things about it and upon visiting really like the atmosphere of the campus.

I liked it's close proximity to my home town and have always enjoyed going to Brighton. The university has a good reputation and good job prospects also and seemed like the ideal fit for me at the time.
