  • A 10-month UG basis produces living costs of INR 13.71 Lakhs at the full official category total.

Note: The £1,064 (INR 1.37 Lakhs) figure is an itemised monthly estimate. Its annual INR 16.45 Lakhs equals twelve months, not a separately published annual budget.

For October 2026, reserve housing and tuition cash before the 21 August 2026 deposit deadline. January 2027 applicants should use the 14 December 2026 deposit date for their cash plan.

  • The Immigration Health Surcharge supports National Health Service access.
  • The actual IHS is paid upfront for the full visa period, not monthly.
  • The £2,000 (INR 2.58 Lakhs) deposit reduces tuition and is not an extra total cost.
  • Airfare, visa-document travel, and optional setup purchases remain outside these totals.

At unchanged current rates, three-year BSc Computer Science tuition reaches INR 94.69 Lakhs. Thirty months of full-category living brings the comparison to about INR 1.36 Crore.

A INR 50 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years costs about INR 67,500 monthly.

Key Insight: The possible 2026/27 saving reaches £6,000 (INR 7.73 Lakhs). The Global Talent award is £5,000 (INR 6.44 Lakhs). The Early Bird discount is £1,000 (INR 1.29 Lakhs). Confirm both awards before paying the next tuition instalment.

University of Essex Tuition Deposit and Payment Options

Essex uses a tuition deposit for visa-requiring UG direct applications, taught PG courses, and research degrees.

The public policy does not replace the offer letter. The offer confirms the exact course deposit, refund rules, and payment deadline.

  • Bank transfer and telegraphic transfer are available payment routes.
  • Flywire is Essex’s named international payment provider.
  • Forex cards can reduce conversion loss compared with a raw international wire.
  • Education-loan disbursement should match the invoice and bank-transfer lead time.

Essex allows the yearly fee in full or two instalments. The first payment is due during registration, and the second appears on the term-two invoice.

  1. Accept the offer and meet every academic condition.
  2. Pay the tuition deposit through the offer-letter payment link.
  3. Receive the CAS, or Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, after Essex clears the required conditions.
  4. Pay the balance using the instalment schedule on the invoice.
  5. Keep every receipt for the Student Visa file and loan records.

Hidden Costs of Studying at University of Essex

One date controls the largest pre-arrival payment for January 2027 PG applicants. The £2,000 (INR 2.58 Lakhs) deposit is due by 14 December 2026.

  • Student Visa: The current application charge is £558 (INR 71,887).
  • Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): The annual rate is £776 (INR 99,972).
  • Full IHS payment: A one-year PG visa can require about £1,035 (INR 1.33 Lakhs) upfront.
  • Accommodation: Reserve the first shared-rent amount of £532 (INR 68,538) before arrival.
  • Setup: Bedding, kitchen items, winter clothing, and local travel need separate cash.
  • Testing and transfers: English-test retakes, bank charges, and document travel vary by applicant.

Cash needed before arrival for MSc Data Science is about INR 5.31 Lakhs. This combines the deposit, Student Visa fee, full IHS estimate, and first shared-rent amount.

Budget approximately INR 5.31 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs, excluding airfare and variable setup purchases.

Note: Families often miss the full IHS payment of about £1,035 (INR 1.33 Lakhs). It falls due with the visa application, before travel.

Fee Saving Strategies for Indian Students

One current saving closes on 19 August 2026. The £1,000 (INR 1.29 Lakhs) Early Bird discount needs full 2026/27 payment.

  • Choose housing carefully: Compare university contracts with shared rent, bills, deposits, and travel.
  • Work within visa rules: A Student Visa normally permits up to 20 hours weekly during term.
  • Check Section 80E: India’s Income-tax Act can allow interest deductions on eligible education loans.
  • Check the fee band: BSc Mathematics with Computing costs £1,900 (INR 2.45 Lakhs) less yearly. Compare the career outcomes before choosing.
  • Plan the Graduate Route: Applications made from 2027 receive 18 months after UG or PG study. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduates receive three years.

The Graduate Route gives time to seek sponsored work, but it does not guarantee employment. Keep the loan plan viable without assuming a job offer.

Tip for Indian Students: The highest current PG lever is the Global Talent Masters Scholarship. It is worth £5,000 (INR 6.44 Lakhs). Confirm eligibility before paying the £2,000 (INR 2.58 Lakhs) deposit for January 2027.

Is University of Essex Worth the Cost for Indian Students

A one-year MSc Data Science costs INR 46.96 to 49.73 Lakhs before optional setup items. The return depends on entering data, technology, or analytical roles.

Discover Uni reports £28,000 (INR 36.07 Lakhs) average earnings fifteen months after study. The figure is a subject-level Computer Science benchmark.

It also reports 85% working or studying. The data is not course-specific.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) places Essex at 438 in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The Graduate Route lasts 18 months for applications made from 2027.

A £28,000 (INR 36.07 Lakhs) salary equals about INR 3.01 Lakhs gross monthly. A INR 40 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years carries an equated monthly instalment (EMI).

The monthly EMI amount is about INR 54,000.

Key Insight: The decision number is INR 43.29 Lakhs after the Global Talent award. That award is £5,000 (INR 6.44 Lakhs). Confirm it before the January 2027 deposit deadline. That deadline is 14 December 2026.

Essex is financially reasonable when the scholarship is confirmed and the target role supports the loan. The case is weaker when the full fee is borrowed without a realistic employment plan.

October 2026 remains a deadline-pressure route. January 2027 is the realistic PG-only entry for most new visa applicants. MSc Data Science needs INR 46.96 to 49.73 Lakhs for its first academic year. The Global Talent Masters Scholarship can reduce tuition by INR 6.44 Lakhs. A INR 40 Lakh loan carries an EMI of about INR 54,000 monthly. Use the January course deadline of 7 or 14 December 2026. Pay the £2,000 (INR 2.58 Lakhs) deposit by 14 December.

  • The campus life at Essex was vibrant and inclusive. There was always something happening — international food festivals, cultural nights, Diwali and Holi celebrations organised by the Indian Society, music gigs, career networking events, and charity fundraisers.
  • The Students’ Union supports over 100 societies and clubs, ranging from sports (like cricket, badminton, football) to cultural (like the Bollywood Dance Society, South Asian Society).
  • I personally was a part of the Debate Society and the Indian Society, which was a great way to meet like-minded people and feel at home. Sports facilities are excellent, and I occasionally use the gym and join casual football games too.

I decided to go for this university because of its ranking, flexibility and duration of the course. The admission process was very smooth and seamless, the admission team was very cooperative and responsive. 10/10 for EBS staff. Every email was responded to in detail which further helped me to take the next step in a much better and easy way. I had prepared for IELTS to get admission as part of the process and did all the study for it by myself. I was a working professional at that time in India, YouTube helped me prepare for this exam, and I did it all by myself. Within a month I took the exam and scored a band of 7 overall. With regard to choosing the college and other paperwork, I took help from Blue Sky Education, based in Kolkata. They handheld me throughout the process and made my worries less. Now I have successfully graduated from the University of Essex and working here in London, UK. It's an amazing place for students who want to learn and have a good time on campus.
