NIFTEM Sonepat Admission Process

NIFTEM-K uses centralised national counselling for its B.Tech and standardised exam scores for all other programmes. No college-level entrance test is held for B.Tech admission.

B.Tech Admission

B.Tech seats at NIFTEM-K are allocated through JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) or CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) counselling, identical to the process used for IITs, NITs, and other centrally-funded technical institutes.

  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology with a minimum of 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST). A valid JEE Main score is mandatory.
  • Seat allocation is merit-based and category-wise through JoSAA counselling rounds. Special rounds under CSAB are held for remaining seats after JoSAA concludes.
  • NRI/PIO/OCI candidates are admitted through DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) with a valid SAT score.

JEE Main rank cutoffs for NIFTEM-K B.Tech are comparable to lower-ranked NITs. General category closings have typically been in the JEE Main rank range of 40,000 to 80,000, making it accessible to aspirants who cleared JEE Main but did not secure preferred NIT branches.

BBA (Hons.) Admission

BBA (Hons.) admission is through CUET-UG scores. Candidates must have completed Class 12 in any stream with Mathematics and English as subjects.

MBA Admission

MBA admission at NIFTEM-K uses a two-stage process: an institute-level entrance test followed by group discussion and personal interview.

  • Eligibility: Graduation in any stream with a minimum of 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST).
  • Accepted scores: NIFTEM Entrance Test, CAT, MAT, or CMAT. Candidates with valid scores from any of these exams are shortlisted for GD and PI.

M.Tech and M.Sc Admission

M.Tech admission is based on GATE scores, CUET-PG, or the NIFTEM entrance test for non-GATE applicants. Food Science and Technology M.Sc admits through CUET-PG.

  • M.Tech eligibility: B.Tech or B.E. in Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate.
  • M.Sc eligibility: B.Sc in the relevant science stream with a minimum of 55% aggregate.

Ph.D. Admission

Ph.D. admission is through the NIFTEM Research Eligibility Test (RET), conducted in multiple calls throughout the academic year. Candidates with a valid GATE, NET, or JRF qualification may be eligible for direct shortlisting to the interview stage.

NIFTEM: 3 Answered Questions

Which is a better option: an MTech in food at NIFTEM or an MS in food at CFTRI for a BE graduate?

Abhinandan BanerjeeM.Tech from National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (2020)

Among NIFTEM and CFTRI, the former is a better option. It is unique and the grooming and exposure that you will get at the campus are better than any other campus that offer food technology degrees.

For a post-graduate degree, textbook learning may not be up to the mark. But if you are industry-oriented then, it is one of the best options for you.

For the first two semesters, you will need to study around 8-9 subjects and do two visits under Village Adoption Programme. For the third semester, you will have to do a semester-long internship. You will be evaluated based on the projects that you handle during your internship. For your final semester, you can get your internship extended, get a PPO in a company, or come back to campus and take a research project. In recent years the highest CTC offered at the institute was 8-10 LPA.

How is the life at NIFTEM?

Mansi Topa
Sayantan Raystudied at National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (2020)

One of my friends studied atNIFTEM . As per him, it is a very good institute and life is also very interesting, especially during the early college days as it was a new journey of his life.

  • The professors here are very talented, well educated and very helpful in nature.
  • They love to interact with the students and guide them with their studies and doubts.
  • The course curriculum is also very good and well arranged.
  • The basics are being taught during the first year and the core fundamentals of food are being taught from second year onwards.
  • The laboratories are also good and well equipped with all the necessary facilities.
  • The mess and hostel food is not so good but is hygenic.
  • There are various kinds of sports and extracurricular activities being organised by the college where all the students can participate.

Hence, life at NIFTEM will be very good. You will get the chance to develop and grow yourself in all aspects, from academics to extra curricular activities, but in the end it all depends on you on how you can use these opportunities to shape your future and career in a better way.

Mansi Topa
Preity RayB.Tech Food Technology & Management, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (2020)

NIFTEM is one of the best in food technology and entrepreneurship studies. It is a pretty good choice if you are interested in chemistry and biology.

  • The curriculum is very unique and industry-oriented since the food industry sees a growth of about 15-18% every year.
  • Every year good companies visit there and recruit students. Companies such as Nestle, ITC, PepsiCo, Dabur, etc.
  • There is an advantage since it's new the research projects are just starting and there are more funds and a well-backed faculty department and administration.
  • NIFTEM is a place where you can express yourself through your unique ideas. There are lots of chances by doing some research work on the subject you are interested in.
