Indian Institute of technology, mandi’s foundation stone was laid at Kamand, which came to be known as the site for the permanent campus of IIT Mandi. It took place on 24th February 2009. For the first batch of admissions for IIT Mandi took place in July 2009 and the classes were conducted from 27th July 2009, onwards. Staying arrangement for IIT Mandi students was made in student hostels, Rajendra Bhawan (Boys) and Kasturba Bhawan (Girls).

Admission to the B.Tech / B.Arch program is on the basis of marks acquired by a candidate in 12th (Science Stream) or equivalent and JEE Main Entrance exam.
Final Selection to the program is based on the allocation of seats through JoSAA counseling (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).

IIT Mandi offers twenty-one specializations under M.Tech. program. Applying candidate must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in their respective course, with Minimum 60% marks in aggregate. Selection is made on the basis of GATE / JAM score acquired by the candidate. Final selection to the program will be made by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech. / M.Sc.).
IIT Mandi offers MCA and MBA program at the Postgraduate level. Candidates applying for these courses must hold Bachelor’s degree from a recognized Institute/University. Those applying for MCA program must hold a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 60%(Mathematics in 12th is Mandatory) whereas candidates applying for MBA must have a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks.

Many Collaborations has taken place from around the world, where scholar students have been either sent to the universities or sent toIIT Mandi.
