HNBGU B.Tech FAQs
Ques. Is HNBGU B.Tech a central university degree and what does that mean practically?
Ans. Yes. HNBGU is a central university established by an Act of Parliament, and its B.Tech degree is awarded under the university’s own academic authority without affiliation to any state technical university. This is different from most private engineering colleges in Uttarakhand that are affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University. The degree carries the HNBGU name directly, which some employers treat differently from a UTU-affiliated degree.
Ques. Why does HNBGU use CUET-UG for B.Tech admission instead of JEE Main alone?
Ans. As a central university, HNBGU is mandated to use CUET-UG as the primary admission tool for undergraduate programmes, in line with the National Education Policy framework that pushes central institutions toward a common entrance. JEE Main scores are accepted as a secondary pathway only when seats remain vacant after the CUET-UG merit round is complete. Students with only JEE Main scores should register separately on the HNBGU portal after the main counselling round ends.
Ques. How does the INR 1,00,100 total fee for 4 years compare with private engineering colleges in Uttarakhand?
Ans. HNBGU’s total 4-year fee of INR 1,00,100 is roughly 10 to 15 times lower than the fee at private Uttarakhand universities like Graphic Era (INR 11 to 18 L) or UPES (INR 14 to 23 L). The savings are real and significant. The trade-off is typically in placement infrastructure, industry partnerships, and campus placement drive quality, where private universities tend to have stronger records.
Ques. What are the on-campus facilities for B.Tech students at HNBGU Srinagar campus?
Ans. The main campus in Srinagar, Garhwal, hosts the B.Tech engineering departments with laboratories and lecture halls. Being a central university campus, facilities are government-funded and include a central library and hostels. The campus is in a hill-station setting at 560 metres altitude, which some students value for its environment but which also means it is geographically more isolated than Dehradun-based colleges.
Ques. Can students from states other than Uttarakhand apply for HNBGU B.Tech through CUET-UG?
Ans. Yes. HNBGU B.Tech is open to students from all states who appeared for CUET-UG 2026. There is no state-domicile restriction for central university admissions, unlike state technical universities. Category reservations apply as per central government norms. Out-of-state students register through the same portal as all other applicants and compete in the same merit list.

With a CUET UG score of 557, you remain eligible for various central and state universities. Regarding Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), the B.Sc. (Biotechnology) application portal is now closed. Please monitor the official SAMARTH portal frequently, as institutions occasionally announce spot rounds or reopen registration for vacant seats.
With 322/750 in the PCB domain and a strong 166/250 in biology, you have a very solid chance of securing a B.Sc. seat. At HNBGU, the general category cutoffs for specialized B.Sc. life science courses fluctuate around 180–220+ marks. While competitive branches like biotechnology might push closer to the higher edge, your scores make you eligible and competitive for admission across multiple rounds. You should definitely register for their counseling portal.
Admission to B.Sc Nursing and B.Pharma course is not done based on NEET but through University Entrance test.
HNBGU will shortly release the CUET UG cut-off for the B.Pharma program. The university is expected to begin the counseling process very soon and you have to register yourself in order to participate in the counseling.
