KNU Admission Process
KNU conducts admissions centrally through the West Bengal state and university-level portals. UG admissions for most programmes follow the WBCAP centralised process; B.Tech admissions are governed by WBJEE.
UG Admission (BA, B.Sc, BCA, BBA)
Admission eligibility for three-year undergraduate programmes requires:
- 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board
- Minimum 45% marks in qualifying subjects (40% for SC/ST/OBC as per WB norms)
- No separate university entrance test for BA, B.Sc, and general commerce programmes
Seat allotment is based on 10+2 merit in the relevant stream, conducted through WBCAP. Multiple allotment rounds are held between July and October each academic year. Candidates confirm admission by paying fees at the allotted college.
B.Tech Admission (Mining, Metallurgy, Data Science)
B.Tech eligibility requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM), with minimum 45% marks. A valid WBJEE score is mandatory. Candidates participate in WBJEE centralised counselling and KNU seat allotment. The B.Tech programme at KNU has an Asansol-specific industrial advantage, given its proximity to the SAIL-Burnpur steel plant and Asansol coal mines.
Law, Management, and Allied Health Admission
LLB (3 years) requires a Bachelor’s degree. The integrated B.A.LL.B and B.Com.LL.B (5 years) accept 10+2 students. MBA requires graduation, and MCA requires graduation with Mathematics. Allied health programmes (BMLT, BPT, B.Optom) require 10+2 with PCB and are merit-based. Ph.D. admissions follow a two-stage process: KNU entrance test and department-level interview for candidates holding a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks.
