RCU Diploma Lateral Civil Engineering FAQs
Ques. What ITI trades make a candidate eligible for Diploma Civil Engineering Lateral Entry at RCPI?
Ans. Candidates must hold a 2-year ITI certificate in a relevant civil trade such as Surveyor, Carpenter, Mason, or a related construction trade from a recognised ITI. Candidates who have passed Intermediate Science with Physics and Mathematics are also eligible. Trade certificates in non-civil branches are not accepted.
Ques. Is it compulsory to go through JCECEB counselling, or can I apply directly to RCPI?
Ans. Both routes are available. Candidates from Jharkhand may participate in the JCECEB polytechnic lateral entry counselling conducted by the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board. Alternatively, candidates may apply directly to RCPI through the university portal at rcu.edu.in and seek admission on the published merit list.
Ques. What is the fee structure for the 2-year Diploma Civil Engineering Lateral programme?
Ans. The total fee for the 2-year Diploma Civil Engineering (Lateral Entry) programme is INR 96,300. This includes annual tuition of INR 45,000 per year, examination fee of INR 1,100 per semester, and one-time charges of INR 3,000 payable in the first year. The fee is the same across all three branches at RCPI.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing the Diploma in Civil Engineering from RCPI?
Ans. Diploma Civil Engineering holders can work as site supervisors, junior civil engineers, draughtsmen, or quality control assistants in construction, infrastructure, and government PWD departments. Many graduates also join state public works departments or private contractors. The lateral diploma also qualifies holders for direct second-year admission to B.Tech Civil Engineering.
Ques. Can I pursue B.Tech Civil Engineering after completing this lateral entry diploma?
Ans. Yes. Diploma holders from RCPI are eligible for B.Tech lateral entry (second year) programmes in Civil Engineering through JCECEB polytechnic-to-degree bridge admission.
