AU B.Tech Lateral AIML FAQs
Ques. I have a diploma in Electronics Engineering. Can I apply for B.Tech Lateral in AI & ML at Apex University even though my diploma is not in Computer Science?
Ans. Yes, you can apply. The eligibility criteria for B.Tech Lateral Entry at Apex University states that candidates must have passed a minimum 3-year/2-year Diploma in ANY branch of Engineering and Technology with at least 45% marks (40% for reserved category). So a diploma in Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, or any other engineering branch makes you eligible. You do not need a diploma specifically in Computer Science or AI/ML to apply for this program.
Ques. What is the actual total fee I will pay for the entire B.Tech Lateral AI & ML program at Apex University, and are there any hidden charges?
Ans. The official tuition fee is Rs. 1,30,000 per year, totaling Rs. 3,90,000 for the 3-year program. However, you will also need to pay additional charges such as the application fee (Rs. 1,000), enrollment fee, examination fee, uniform fee, and other miscellaneous charges, which are not included in the tuition fee. These additional charges are not covered under any scholarship or concession. Hostel accommodation, if opted for, costs Rs. 15,000 per semester (Rs. 30,000 per year) for non-AC rooms, excluding food charges.
Ques. Is the AUCET exam mandatory for admission to B.Tech Lateral at Apex University, or can I get admission directly based on my diploma marks?
Ans. AUCET is not strictly mandatory for admission, but it is the primary route for 50% of the seats and is also the basis for scholarship eligibility. The remaining 50% of seats are filled through CUET UG scores. If you do not appear for AUCET or CUET, you may still be considered for direct admission if seats remain vacant after the regular counselling rounds, subject to the university's discretion. However, appearing for AUCET is strongly recommended as it also determines your scholarship eligibility - a higher AUCET score can get you up to 100% tuition fee waiver.
Ques. How is the placement scenario specifically for B.Tech Lateral AI & ML students at Apex University? Do lateral entry students get the same placement opportunities as regular B.Tech students?
Ans. Apex University's placement cell does not differentiate between regular and lateral entry students for placement drives. The university reports a highest package of 38 LPA and an average package of 10 LPA across all engineering programs, with 700+ placement drives conducted and 14,000+ total placements. Key recruiters include CarDekho, iZOOlogic, Celebal Technologies, and others. However, these figures are university-wide and not specific to the AI & ML lateral batch. Students are advised to verify course-specific placement data directly with the placement cell before making a decision.
Ques. Can I avail both the Early Bird Scholarship and the JEE Main-based scholarship simultaneously at Apex University?
Ans. Yes, the Early Bird Scholarship (10% on 1st year fee) is one of the few scholarships that can be combined with other scholarships. Specifically, the Early Bird Scholarship can be combined with the Alumni (Loyalty Bonus) scholarship. However, it cannot be combined with the JEE Main-based scholarship or AUCET-based scholarship simultaneously - you can only avail one of those at a time. The university's policy states that a single student cannot avail multiple scholarships simultaneously, with the exception of the Early Bird Registration (EBR) and Alumni scholarships, which can be combined with others.
Ques. What programming languages and tools are taught in the B.Tech Lateral AI & ML program at Apex University, and how industry-relevant is the curriculum?
Ans. The B.Tech Lateral AI & ML curriculum at Apex University covers Python, R, and MATLAB as primary programming languages for AI/ML development. Core topics include machine learning algorithms, neural networks, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, deep learning, and data science. The program also includes hands-on projects such as predictive analytics, chatbot development, and recommendation systems. Additionally, through the university's collaboration with IIT Kanpur, students get access to free certification courses in full stack development and data analysis, which significantly enhances the industry relevance of the degree. Students also work on real-world internship projects with tech companies.
