SKDU Ph.D Agriculture: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. UGC-NET/JRF is not mandatory for Ph.D. admission at SKDU. Candidates with valid UGC-NET (including JRF), ICAR-NET, GATE, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, or equivalent national-level qualifications are exempt from the university's entrance examination and can directly appear for the interview. Candidates without these qualifications must appear for SKDU's own Ph.D. entrance test, followed by an interview. Admission is based on merit in the entrance test and interview.

Ans. The minimum duration is 3 years (including mandatory course work) and the maximum is 6 years from the date of admission. An additional 2 years can be granted through re-registration, making the maximum possible duration 8 years. Female Ph.D. scholars and Persons with Disabilities (more than 40% disability) are eligible for an additional 2-year relaxation, making the maximum duration 10 years for them. The programme is conducted in full-time on-campus mode only.

Ans. Yes, SKDU has a 150-acre campus that includes experimental farms and research facilities specifically designed for agricultural research. The Faculty of Agriculture is led by Prof. Dr. Ramawatar Meena, a retired scientist from CICR-RS Sirsa, and has a team of 27 faculty members. No. As per UGC Ph.D. Regulations 2022 and SKDU's own guidelines, no candidate already registered for a full-time programme at any university is eligible to register for Ph.D. Additionally, no research scholar registered for the Ph.D. programme is permitted to undertake any other full-time programme during the Ph.D. period. However, scientists and professionals working at R&D institutes of the Government of India or State Government with whom SKDU has signed an MoU may directly appear for the interview subject to fulfilling minimum eligibility criteria.

After completing Ph.D. (Agriculture) from SKDU, graduates can pursue careers as Agricultural Scientists in ICAR institutes and State Agricultural Universities, Assistant Professors in colleges and universities (UGC-NET/JRF qualification additionally required for teaching positions), Research Officers in government agricultural departments, Agripreneurs and Farm Management Consultants, Extension Officers in state agriculture departments, and Researchers in private agri-tech companies and NGOs. The degree from a UGC-recognised university is valid for all government and academic positions requiring a doctoral qualification in agriculture.
