SGRRU Pharm.D FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between Pharm.D and B.Pharm?
Ans. Pharm.D is a 6-year professional doctoral program (5 years academic + 1 year internship) designed to produce clinical pharmacists with advanced knowledge in patient care, therapeutic drug management, and clinical pharmacy services. B.Pharm is a 4-year undergraduate program focusing on pharmaceutical sciences and drug formulation. Pharm.D graduates are qualified for clinical pharmacy positions in hospitals, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical industry, while B.Pharm graduates typically work in production, quality assurance, and community pharmacy. Ques. Is Pharm.D internship mandatory and can it be done outside India?
Ans. Yes, internship is mandatory as part of the Pharm.D curriculum and is conducted in PCI-approved hospitals. Currently, students are expected to complete their internship in approved hospitals within India. However, the Pharmacy Council of India is examining whether a minimum period of 2-3 months can be permitted in hospitals outside India for specialty training at the student's discretion. As of now, the policy is still being evolved and will be notified on the PCI website (www.pci.nic.in) once approved. Students should check the latest PCI guidelines before planning international internship.
