MHU Ph.D Fruit Science: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. MHU’s PhD Fruit Science programme supports research in pomology, fruit crop agronomy and production systems, orchard management, post-harvest physiology and cold chain technology, plant breeding and variety development, crop protection in fruit orchards, and processing and value addition of fruit produce. Scholars finalise a specific research focus in consultation with their faculty supervisor after completing the compulsory coursework in the first year. The university has dedicated orchards and experimental plots to support field-based doctoral research.

Ans. The minimum duration is 3 years as per MHU’s doctoral regulations. Most scholars complete their degree in 4 to 5 years depending on their research topic and experimental scope. The first year is devoted to mandatory coursework across two semesters. After coursework, the scholar registers a thesis topic and begins supervised research. Extensions beyond the minimum duration are permissible with prior approval from the MHU doctoral committee and must comply with the university’s maximum permitted duration.

Ans. Admission is through the CCSHAU CET (Common Entrance Test) conducted by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. The 2026 exam is scheduled for July 19. Candidates must register on hau.ac.in and also separately apply on the MHU portal (mhu.ac.in) with a counselling fee. After the CET result, online choice filling takes place from July 21 to 27, followed by seat allotment on August 6, 2026. Students with ICAR AIEEA PG scores may apply for 15% AIQ seats.

Ans. MHU Karnal does not offer a universal institute-funded stipend to all PhD students. Scholars who hold ICAR Junior Research Fellowship or ICAR Senior Research Fellowship awards independently can utilise those at MHU during their doctoral work. The ICAR National Talent Scholarship is available to eligible postgraduate and doctoral students in agriculture and allied sciences. Haryana state scholarships for SC/BC/EWS students are also available through the state scholarship portal at scholarships.gov.in.

Ans. Doctoral graduates in Fruit Science are eligible for Scientist positions at ICAR institutes such as ICAR-CISH (Lucknow), ICAR-IIHR (Bengaluru), and various regional fruit research stations. State horticulture departments and agriculture universities across Haryana and neighbouring states recruit PhD holders as Research Officers and Assistant Professors. The processed food and fresh produce export industry also hires fruit scientists for quality assurance, technical advisory, and product development roles in horticulture enterprises.

Ans. Yes. CCSHAU CET accepts applications from all Indian nationals. Most MHU seats are reserved for Haryana domicile residents, but open category seats are available for candidates from other states. Applicants with valid ICAR AIEEA PG scores may apply for the 15% all-India quota seats.
