- The calculated 30-credit amount is US$33,751.80 (INR 32.58 Lakhs), but it is a planning calculation rather than a separately published programme total.
- Hybrid sections coded for distance learning may add a US$30 per-credit fee (INR 2,896), so confirm the section code before registration.
- The orientation fee, application fee and transportation charge sit outside the per-credit total, which makes the first-semester bill higher than tuition alone.
FAU’s fee page states that the calculator excludes some costs, including books, supplies and other materials, and that total charges can change. Confirm the current rate on the official tuition breakdown before accepting an offer.

Cost of Living in Boca Raton for Computer Science Students
FAU’s 2026-2027 graduate budget separates living expenses from tuition and uses a nine-month academic-year estimate for full-time non-Florida residents. The on-campus budget assigns housing, food, transportation and miscellaneous costs.
The university says its on-campus housing and food estimates use weighted residence and meal-plan rates, while transportation and personal expenses remain separate. Monthly figures below are calculated by dividing each official nine-month amount by nine.
| Expense | Monthly (USD, calculated) | Monthly (INR, calculated) | Nine-month official (USD) | Nine-month official (INR) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Housing | US$1,169.33 | INR 1.13 Lakhs | US$10,524 | INR 10.16 Lakhs |
| Food | US$589.78 | INR 56,936 | US$5,308 | INR 5.12 Lakhs |
| Transportation | US$343.33 | INR 33,144 | US$3,090 | INR 2.98 Lakhs |
| Miscellaneous personal expenses | US$528.44 | INR 51,015 | US$4,756 | INR 4.59 Lakhs |
| Living expenses subtotal | US$3,042.44 | INR 2.94 Lakhs | US$27,382 | INR 26.43 Lakhs |
Source: Florida Atlantic University 2026-2027 Cost of Attendance, full-time graduate non-Florida resident on-campus budget, checked 16 August 2026.
The same official budget lists books, course materials, supplies and equipment at US$1,368 (INR 1.32 Lakhs) for nine months. This amount is separate from the living subtotal and should remain in the study budget.
Calculated two-year planning illustration: This illustration repeats two nine-month living budgets and two books allowances across four Fall or Spring semesters. It does not claim that FAU publishes a fixed two-year duration.
| Planning component | Calculation basis | Amount (USD) | Amount (INR equivalent) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-credit tuition and per-credit fees | Minimum degree credits | US$33,751.80 | INR 32.58 Lakhs |
| Living expenses | US$27,382 × 2 | US$54,764 | INR 52.87 Lakhs |
| Books and materials | US$1,368 × 2 | US$2,736 | INR 2.64 Lakhs |
| Transportation Access Fee | US$76.90 × 4 Fall or Spring semesters | US$307.60 | INR 29,695 |
| Graduate orientation fee | First semester | US$35 | INR 3,379 |
| Application fee | One submission | US$30 | INR 2,896 |
| Calculated planning total | All components above | US$91,624.40 | INR 88.45 Lakhs |
Budget scope
The INR 88.45 Lakhs figure is a calculated two-year planning illustration using official inputs, not a university-published total or a visa maintenance amount. Recalculate it if your credit load, housing choice or study length changes.
Key insight: FAU’s published per-credit schedule makes the minimum tuition traceable. Boca Raton living costs can lift a two-year planning budget to US$91,624.40 (INR 88.45 Lakhs), so secure funding beyond tuition.
FAU MS Computer Science Admission 2027
Admission requires a related bachelor’s degree, a GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 credits and preparation in core computing subjects. The department also reviews applications holistically, so meeting the published floor does not establish admission.
Applicants from different academic backgrounds may apply when they can show the required foundation. FAU can assign remedial coursework case by case, which makes prerequisite evidence important for Indian applicants changing from a related discipline.
Intakes and academic eligibility
FAU lists Fall, Spring and Summer entry terms for graduate applications, with Spring 2027 as the current target intake. The standard degree requires at least 30 credits, a minimum 3.0 programme GPA and grades of C or better.
Foreign credentials require an evaluation by FAU or a NACES member. NACES means National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, whose member evaluation establishes the United States academic equivalence used in the application review.
| Admission factor | Official requirement or policy | Indian-applicant meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Academic degree | Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field | Show course descriptions when the degree title is different |
| GPA | Desirable minimum 3.0 on a 4.0 scale | Approximately 60% to 65%, or CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) 6.0 to 6.5 on 10 |
| Last-credit review | GPA calculated over the last 60 credits | Protect the final semesters if the cumulative score is lower |
| Prerequisites | Calculus II, statistics, programming, data structures, algorithms, operating systems and computer architecture | Map transcripts to each subject before submission |
| Graduate-level study | At least half of degree credits at the 6000 level or above | Plan the advanced-credit requirement with an adviser |
| Standard completion structure | Minimum 30 credits with thesis or non-thesis route | Select the route based on research or industry preparation |
| GRE (Graduate Record Examination) | Not required by the department | Use preparation time for prerequisites, documents and English testing |
| Transcripts | Official transcripts and foreign-credential evaluation where applicable | Allow time for sealed or electronically verified records |
The academic table is a screening map rather than a guaranteed profile. Indian applicants should compare every prerequisite against the transcript because missing calculus, algorithms or systems preparation can create remedial work after review.
- Prepare subject descriptions for programming, data structures and algorithms when the transcript uses broad Indian course titles.
- Use the last-60-credit calculation to explain an upward academic trend with a short factual note.
- Choose thesis or non-thesis only after matching the route to research plans, doctoral intent or software-industry preparation.
English language proficiency (ELP)
English language proficiency (ELP) evidence is required unless FAU confirms a specific exemption for the applicant’s schooling history. The current official pages list IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic 6.0 and Duolingo English Test 110 as usable routes. IELTS is the university’s listed band-based route.
The department lists TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) 79 iBT, 500 paper-based and 213 computer-based. FAU’s graduate summary lists TOEFL 4.5 without a stated scale, so applicants should not self-convert the scores.
| English test | Published score | Use for Spring 2027 planning |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.0 overall | Confirm whether any component minimum applies |
| TOEFL iBT | 79 on the 0 to 120 scale | Department page gives the usable benchmark |
| TOEFL PBT | 500 | Department page lists the paper-based score |
| TOEFL CBT | 213 | Department page lists the computer-based score |
| TOEFL graduate summary | 4.5, scale not stated | Resolve the discrepancy with graduate admissions |
| Duolingo English Test | 110 | Graduate programme summary lists this route |
TOEFL scores require special verification because the department and graduate summary use different presentations. Indian applicants should prepare against the department’s 79 iBT benchmark, then obtain written confirmation before sending a newer score format.
- Book IELTS or the department-listed TOEFL route early enough to retest before the international deadline.
- Ask FAU whether English-medium study qualifies for an exemption because the published exception is conditional.
- Do not spend time on the GRE because the department states that it is not required for this programme.
English-score verification
FAU’s official pages show a TOEFL presentation conflict, so Indian applicants should submit only after graduate admissions confirms the applicable scale and score for Spring 2027.
Tip for Indian students: The 3.0 last-60-credit benchmark and prerequisite list make transcript mapping as important as the overall percentage. Prepare subject evidence before the 01 October 2026 international deadline.
FAU MS Computer Science Application 2027
Spring 2027 applications are open through EngineeringCAS, and the international filing deadline is 01 October 2026. EngineeringCAS closes at midnight Eastern Time, which is 09:30 a.m. IST on that date, so Indian applicants should upload a complete file before the portal cutoff.
FAU’s current programme summary shows a later unqualified Spring date, but the university catalog identifies 01 October for international applicants. The international tier is the safer controlling date, while the programme does not publish a fixed decision date.
Future intake deadlines
The table lists every future intake shown in the current international filing schedule. Decision dates are not published for this programme, so applicants should not treat the filing deadline as an admission notification date.
| Intake | International application deadline | Portal cutoff | Decision date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 | 01 October 2026 | Midnight Eastern Time, 09:30 a.m. IST | Not published |
| Summer 2027 | 01 March 2027 | Midnight Eastern Time, 10:30 a.m. IST | Not published |
| Fall 2027 | 01 June 2027 | Midnight Eastern Time, 09:30 a.m. IST | Not published |
Source: Florida Atlantic University graduate filing dates and EngineeringCAS application instructions, checked 16 August 2026.
FAU asks foreign credentials sent for its internal evaluation to arrive 30 days before the deadline. For Spring 2027, use 01 September 2026 as the document-arrival target, even if the online application remains editable later.
Application sequence for Indian applicants
EngineeringCAS is the application route for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The file should connect academic preparation, transcript evidence, credential evaluation and English testing before the department reviews the programme fit.
- Start foreign-transcript evaluation before 01 September 2026 because FAU requires documents 30 days before the international deadline.
- Upload the application, official academic records and English evidence early enough to resolve verification requests before portal closure.
- Explain any prerequisite gap with course descriptions because the department can assign remedial study case by case.
- Use the Spring deadline when funding or visa timing requires the earliest confirmed applicant-accessible cycle.
Stage recommendation: Treat 01 September 2026 as the internal completion date and 01 October 2026 as the final portal date. If the file cannot meet the evaluation window, move to the published Summer or Fall 2027 international deadlines instead of submitting incomplete records.
Check Out: Florida Atlantic University application profile
Application tip: The earlier international tier controls Spring 2027 planning, so finish credential evaluation by 01 September 2026 and reserve the final day only for portal corrections.
FAU MS Computer Science Scholarships 2027
FAU publishes three College of Engineering and Computer Science awards that can fit graduate Computer Science applicants. The checked pages do not publish a complete Spring 2027 award value and deadline for every scholarship, so treat awards as opportunities rather than confirmed tuition reductions.
The strongest India-specific match is the Gangal Family Endowed Graduate Scholarship, while the two US$1,000 (INR 96,537) awards require narrower academic or research interests. Because award criteria differ from admission criteria, prepare the supporting evidence separately.
Current published award context: The table preserves the latest award descriptions checked on 16 August 2026. Award values and dates are not automatically target-cycle confirmations unless the row says so.
| Funding option | Published value | Eligibility or preference | Application timing or route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gangal Family Endowed Graduate Scholarship | Value not published | Full-time master’s or doctoral student in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, minimum GPA 3.5, international student from India or Indian descent, with biomedical preference | Department scholarship process; consecutive Fall and Spring or Spring and Fall funding preference |
| Jaime A. Borras Family Endowed Scholarship | US$1,000 (INR 96,537) | Full-time master’s or doctoral student, minimum GPA 3.6 and research activity with a curriculum vitae | Spring semester award; exact target-cycle deadline not published |
| Dr Steven G. Schock Scholarship | US$1,000 (INR 96,537) | Graduate student in ocean engineering, electrical engineering or Computer Science with underwater acoustic technology interest | Engineering scholarship process; a paid EdgeTech internship may also be offered |
| EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) Graduate Teaching Assistantship | Tuition covered in proportion to the appointment; stipend varies by department | Generally requires GPA 3.4, full-time study and up to 20 hours of work weekly; priority can go to doctoral and joint-degree students | Spring 2027 deadline 25 October 2026; page showed Not Open yet on 16 August 2026 |
Source: Florida Atlantic University Engineering and Computer Science scholarship and assistantship pages, checked 16 August 2026.
The Gangal award is the clearest nationality fit for an Indian applicant, but its value is not published. The Borras and Schock awards publish US$1,000 (INR 96,537) amounts, yet their research conditions narrow the eligible pool.
- Prepare a curriculum vitae and research statement because the Borras award requires research activity and a curriculum vitae.
- Explain Indian citizenship or Indian descent directly for the Gangal award instead of assuming that every international applicant qualifies.
- Budget tuition, fees and health costs without an assistantship because graduate assistantships are competitive and fee or insurance coverage is not complete.
- Check the scholarship page again after admission because current published criteria do not prove Spring 2027 selection or payment.
Funding reality
The India-specific award has no published value, while assistantship priority may favour doctoral applicants. Apply for every matching route, but keep the INR 88.45 Lakhs planning illustration fundable without an award.
Scholarship reality: FAU offers relevant graduate funding routes, but only two checked awards publish a US$1,000 (INR 96,537) value. Assistantship support is conditional, so submit evidence early and keep the tuition budget intact until written confirmation.
FAU MS Computer Science Salary 2027
FAU does not publish a current course-level salary, offer-rate or placement report for this MS. The closest official evidence is an EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) NRT page with named graduate examples, while national occupation data supplies market context rather than a graduate outcome.
NRT means National Research Traineeship, and the departmental examples cover individual Computer Science graduates from different cohorts. They show possible pathways, not a typical result or a probability of employment for Spring 2027 students.
Course evidence and market benchmarks
The official departmental page identifies research, technology and entrepreneurship pathways without reporting a median salary or employment percentage. That evidence is useful for career direction, but applicants should not treat named employers or roles as recruitment commitments.
| Evidence scope | Published cohort or context | Reported pathway | Decision meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Departmental NRT individual example | MS Computer Science, Fall 2022 | Hired by FAU as a researcher | Shows a research-related pathway, not a placement rate |
| Departmental NRT individual example | MS Computer Science, Spring 2023 | Founder and chief executive of KWH Technologies | Shows an entrepreneurship pathway, not a typical outcome |
| Departmental NRT individual example | MS Computer Science, Fall 2024 | Consultant at Bradesco Bank and later robotics instructor | Shows more than one career direction after study |
Source: Florida Atlantic University EECS NRT post-program examples, checked 16 August 2026.
For external context, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports national May 2024 medians for occupations connected to the curriculum. These are external job-market benchmarks, not FAU graduate salaries or placement evidence.
| Evidence label | Occupation | Measure and date | US$ | INR equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| External job-market benchmark | Software developers | U.S. national median, May 2024 | US$133,080 | INR 1.28 Crore |
| External job-market benchmark | Data scientists | U.S. national median, May 2024 | US$112,590 | INR 1.09 Crore |
| External job-market benchmark | Information security analysts | U.S. national median, May 2024 | US$124,910 | INR 1.21 Crore |
| External job-market benchmark | Computer and information research scientists | U.S. national median, May 2024 | US$140,910 | INR 1.36 Crore |
Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2024 national median wage pages, checked 16 August 2026.
These occupation-wide figures are gross pay before tax, benefits and location effects. Take-home pay varies by state and personal situation, so use a current U.S. tax calculator when testing a specific offer against your budget.
ROI for the MS in Computer Science
The course’s ROI (return on investment) depends on funding and work outcomes because the calculated two-year planning illustration is US$91,624.40 (INR 88.45 Lakhs). FAU’s missing course-level employment report makes a qualitative risk review more defensible than a payback forecast.
- The calculated planning total includes tuition, living costs and books, so model the full INR 88.45 Lakhs before relying on part-time income.
- FAU publishes no course salary or offer-rate report, so use the external medians only as role context and build a separate India-return scenario.
- The thesis route uses six thesis credits, so confirm the schedule before enrolment because extra time can increase living costs.
- The graduate assistantship generally requires GPA 3.4 and is competitive, so treat tuition, fees and health costs as self-funded until written support arrives.
- FAU’s current programme pages do not publish a programme classification code, so verify STEM status before counting an extended work window in the ROI plan.
Student perspective
A July 2025 MS Computer Science review described research and doctoral opportunities and positive EECS teaching. It also reported difficult assistantship access and uncertain campus-job processes; read the student reviews as anecdotal context. Indian applicants who need funding should apply for assistantships while budgeting without them and separately check advisor fit for research.
These comments are anecdotal and do not replace official Florida Atlantic University data.
ROI reality: FAU offers thesis, software and research pathways, but it has no course-level salary report. The US$91,624.40 (INR 88.45 Lakhs) planning cost requires funding evidence before using external wage benchmarks in an enrolment decision.
USA Visa for FAU MS Computer Science Students 2027
The F-1 Student visa supports full-time study in the United States, and applicants should use the official Student visa guidance alongside FAU’s I-20 instructions. Optional Practical Training (OPT) can provide post-study work authorization. The current programme pages do not publish a CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) code. That code identifies the programme’s field for STEM-extension review, so verify it before relying on the extension.
An H-1B is an employer-sponsored specialty-occupation work visa after study. The United States has no single universal H-1B salary threshold because the employer must satisfy applicable actual-wage and prevailing-wage rules.
The F-1 route does not create an automatic permanent residence timeline. Employment-based immigration depends on the employer, category and country-specific queue, so treat post-study work as conditional rather than a settlement promise.
- Budget the F-1 visa fee at US$185 (INR 17,859) and the I-901 SEVIS, or Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, fee at US$350 (INR 33,788).
- Plan for up to 12 months of standard OPT, then verify the programme’s CIP classification before counting a possible 24-month STEM extension.
- Ask a prospective employer how its H-1B wage compliance and sponsorship process applies to the role because no universal salary figure controls every petition.
- F-2 spouses and children may accompany an F-1 student, but the spouse cannot work under F-2 status, so include dependent funding in the I-20 plan.
Check Out: USA study requirements for Indian students
Visa reality: FAU’s MS Computer Science can support an F-1 study plan, but its current pages do not publish a CIP code. Indian applicants should confirm STEM eligibility before counting post-study work duration in their financial decision.
FAU MS Computer Science Ranking 2027
FAU’s official rankings page lists its graduate Computer Science discipline at #142 in the U.S. News 2026 graduate rankings. This is a discipline-level ranking for graduate Computer Science, not a salary measure, placement guarantee or ranking of this specific MS cohort.
The ranking can help applicants assess academic visibility alongside the curriculum, thesis option and research fit. It cannot replace the missing course-level employment report or establish that every student receives the same career outcome.
| Ranking source | Edition | Scope | Position |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. News Best Graduate Schools | 2026 | Graduate Computer Science at FAU | #142 |
Source: Florida Atlantic University Rankings and Facts, U.S. News 2026 graduate Computer Science listing, checked 16 August 2026.
Read More: Florida Atlantic University Computer Science ranking
Honest take: The #142 graduate Computer Science position adds discipline context, but applicants should weigh it with FAU’s thesis structure, funding uncertainty and course-specific outcome gap.
The standard FAU MS Computer Science fits Indian applicants who can document computing prerequisites and want a thesis or non-thesis route with on-campus or hybrid study. Its strongest proposition is the combination of advanced coursework with research or software pathways. The material tradeoff is a calculated two-year planning total of US$91,624.40 (INR 88.45 Lakhs) without guaranteed funding or course-level salary evidence. For Spring 2027, complete credential evaluation by 01 September 2026 and submit before the international portal deadline on 01 October 2026.

- There are a lot of opportunities for students who want to go for research/PhD after their masters.
- Campus is huge and there are some really good facilities like gym, sports, medical, cafeteria etc.
- Most of the professors at least in EECS department are good, in terms of their teaching style.
Dislikes
- On-Campus jobs hiring process is broken, you need to know people to get an on campus job here, everything works on referral and luck. It does not depend on your qualifications.
- Assistantships are difficult to get and they have a preference for PhD students, odds for a fresh grad student to get a TA/RA position is less.
- Department operations is too slow. For approving a CPT they need a month, one of my friend had to wait for a month to get his CPT approved, he had to convince his company to extend the joining date. This can create a lot of problems for students.
- Initially I went for on-campus housing; I just reached out to the housing department through email and luckily they had a spot for me. Usually for grad students there is no on-campus housing.
- My monthly rent was 1300 including everything (water, electricity, etc.).
- Initially I faced a lot of delays because there was no way you could apply for on-campus housing as a grad student but the overall process was smooth.
- I would suggest going for off-campus housing, as it is more affordable.
- Almost all of the Indian students stay off campus. I am now living off campus, which is around 2 miles from the University.
