Chicago State University International Admissions

Admission of International Students Chicago State University (CSU) is approved by the US Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization Service to enroll international students.

International applicants must fulfill the following requirements to complete the admission application:

  • Official High School transcripts
  • Foreign transcripts in any language other than English must be translated into English by a nationally known credential translator
  • Applicants must meet a minimum GPA of 2.50 on a 4.0 scale
  • Applicants must meet a minimum ACT composite of 18 or SAT composite of 960
  • Personal essay
  • Letter of recommendation
  • To demonstrate financial support for the duration of the time required to reach planned academic objectives, all applicants must submit the following:
    • Certification of Sponsorship
    • An official letter from the bank or a bank account statement confirming sufficient funds
    • International Data Sheet along with a copy of a passport or current visa

Chicago State University Undergraduate Admissions

Chicago State University admissions for undergraduates have the following requirements:

  • Official transcripts from all high schools
  • Personal essay
  • Counselor/teacher recommendation
  • ACT/SAT scores
  • Following are the course requirements:

    • 3 years of Math
    • 3 years of Social Studies

Transfer applicants requirements:

  • Official transcripts from each college/universities attended.
  • Applicants with 24 or more college-level semester hours must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all college-level work attempted.
  • Applicants with fewer than the required number of hours must have at least a 2.0 GPA in all college-level work attempted, a 2.0 from the last institution attended, and meet the freshmen admission requirements as well.

Chicago State University Graduate Admissions

To be eligible for admission to graduate courses, individuals must hold a bachelor’s degree and present a record of prior academic performance that indicates a potential for success in graduate level studies. Applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or better for the final 60 semester credit hours of undergraduate and/or graduate courses and who satisfy specific departmental criteria are generally recommended for full admission. In addition, programs may have other course prerequisites or admission test requirements (e.g., GRE, MAT, etc.) or require additional documentation. Specific degrees might have specific requirements, applicants should check the departmental listings for details prior to applying.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • A personal data form
  • Notarized CSU declaration and certification of financial support form
  • 2 official transcripts sent directly from all colleges and universities attended previously (one with an English translation)
    • A Course by Course evaluation of all foreign educational credentials is required and must be reported directly to the university by either Education Credentials Evaluators or World Educational Service.

  • Statement of purpose
  • All programs offered by CSU require a resume and a personal statement.
  • Proof of English proficiency: A minimum score of 550 on the written TOEFL test or a minimum score of 69 on the computer test or a score of 6.0 on the IELTS test. The scores are valid for 2 years.

The commitment fee amount is 50 USD. The commitment fee will be applied towards the tuition and is non-refundable.
