Columbia International University(CIU) is a private Christian university situated in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. With the motto of “To Know him and make him known”, CIU has been providing education since 1923. 

The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commission on Colleges. Moreover, the Association of Biblical Higher Education(ABHE) has also accredited the university.

The university has an average class size of 20 and student-faculty ratio of 17:1 which enables more personal interaction with highly qualified faculties and students, enabling students to get the guidance with no delay.

The university provides education to 1,101 undergraduate students under 22 majors for students to study in the USA.

Programs, Campus, and Residence

Programs

The college has five divisions and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in 24 majors. Currently, over 1,000 students are enrolled in various courses and professional certificate programs to study in the USA. The five colleges at the university are:

  1. The college of Art and Science
  2. The college of Counseling
  3. The college of Education
  4. The college of Intercultural Studies
  5. The seminary and school of Ministry

The university has 22 undergraduate majors in the field of arts and science and all the courses are accredited from bodies like SACS, ABHS, and ATS.

Graduate degrees offered in the streams of Arts, Business Administration, divinity and Education, etc.

Campus

Formerly known as the Columbia Bible College, the CIU was relocated to its present location Monticello Road, Columbia in 1960. Spread over 400 acres of land the campus provides neatly maintained facilities to provide students with the best education.

The campus, in the city of Columbia, provides a heap of opportunities to students. The CIU has five colleges.

Providing many undergraduate and graduate courses, the CIU has only one campus and most of the undergraduate classes are held at Fisher Classroom building.

Another building, namely, Schuster/McQuilkin Complex, has all the graduate school and seminary as well as counseling labs.

Housing facilities

CIU offers over 400 international and out-of-state students are residing on campus due to the prime and peaceful location of the campus. There are two types of residence facilities available for international students:

  • Traditional Residence Halls: CIU has six traditional residence halls and each of them comprises community laundry facilities, kitchen, and lounges.
  • Pine View Apartments: The pine view apartments offer one, two and three-bedroom units at affordable rates to stay in the quiet and scenic campus.
  • Other Housing facilities: Moreover, CIU has some off-campus residence facilities available also. The university has many apartments available at about 10 minutes driving distance from the campus. Therefore, the students can opt to stay in those apartments as well.

Admission Process

The CIU offers admission thrice in a year: Fall, Spring, and Summer. As international students, the application process requires additional documentation.

How to Apply – Online

Application Fee – 25 USD

Application deadline – The last date to apply online in all the three terms are as follows

  • Fall – July 1
  • Spring – November 1
  • Summer – April 1

Admission requirements

  • Official transcripts from high school or colleges and universities you attended in the past(evaluated by third parties)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (on 4.0 scale) in the high school
  • Official SAT, ACT or CLT scores
  • Applicable TOEFL test scores as English proficiency requirement
  • A filled international Financial Certification of Funds Form with the bank statement from the bank indicating the funds listed.

 It is requested for the international students to start the process at least 9 months before the deadline.

Financial Aids

The CIU offers various scholarships, grants and financial aids depending on the requirement and eligibility of the students. Students can also opt for educational loans to fund their education.

Work while you study

If a student needs to work while attending college, the same may be availed through various on-campus and off-campus opportunities available at CIU.

On-Campus: The Columbia International University is eligible for the federal work-study(FWS) program but they also offer a few non-FWS on-campus jobs.

Off-Campus: CIU partners with various organizations to offer a tuition discount to students in all the courses. Also, due to the urban setting of the university, the students get a lot of opportunities in the city of Columbia.
